What are you working for?

What exactly are you working for? Is it simply money, free time, to buy things?

My album here sums up what I'm working for in life: http://www.warriorforum.com/members/...m-working.html

My goal is to have enough businesses earning me enough residual money to not have to have a corporate job. I want to be able to travel, spend time with my kids (when I have them), and just enjoy life.

This is what everyone works for, whether they know it or not. Even slaves work in the hope that their work will eventually lead to freedom.

I'd love to have my own company as well one day, but I always work MORE when I do my own thing, so that conflicts with my desire to work less lol

This is something many of us entrepreneur types struggle with. After three years of hammering out 12 hour days I am just now getting the hang of building strong passive streams and being able to take time off as I see fit.

Per your initial answer creativity, freedom, and contribution are my core values. I am working so i can spend more time expressing these and so that I can be more effective in all areas.

Also I believe that my daily work must involve all my values. So I'm not into doing stuff I don't like so I can later do the things I do like - my work reflects my values.

I think my favorite answer here might just be freedom. Simple and yet really communicates what we all should be working for whether it be freedom from the 9-5, freedom from bills, freedom to spend time with your family and so on.

Up until two days ago I'd been working to feed, cloth and shelter my kids. My youngest moved out Saturday though, so now I'm working on developing different motivations. I've been working on this for a year or two now actually, because I knew the time was coming

It's already become obvious that I'm now working for land and (more) freedom. Freedom from the responsibility of family is something I have to get use to, but we now want freedom from monthly bills too.

I have my eye on a nice sized acreage that I hope to snag up in the next couple of months, and we're getting solar systems together so that we can live comfortably off grid - both on the land and on the road as we start traveling around the states.

Over the past several years most of the work I've done revolved around automating everything I can, so that everything will keep running smoothly and dropping cash into the accounts regardless of where we are or what we're doing. I've been fine tuning a lot of that in the last several weeks, and I'm very close to being ready for that "launch"

Well I'm new to IM, but I think this is a good exercise for me to go through to define why I'm doing this and therefore what motivates me.

In the short term it is simply to make it so that I can get out of debt and build for retirement from my day job to do full time the things I'm passionate about that is growing closer since I'm now 45 years old. Also give more financial asstance to my son and daughter so they can work less to put themselves through college and complete their educational goals as soon as possible.

In the long term I want to quit my fulltime job to be able to invest more time in work that I do with the inner city poor and marginalized. The reason I am doing IM is to be able to be able to do this and other things that are important to me without taking income from those charitable endeavors. That is my long term motivation.

I work for my kids, I want to be able to show them how to manage their money. I want my kids to understand the power of money and what having money with the right opportunities can do for them.

I work for my future, so I can choose the hours I want to work. I want to spend time in my garden or watching my family have smiles on their faces.

I will continue to work my butt off just so I can see that the important people in my life, along with myself, are happy and healthy.

I'm working towards buying myself one of those kickass exploding ATM machines I use to see in the headers of sales pages.

Oh where did they ever go??? =(
