Freelance sites, are they worth it?

Its seems that Freelance sites are being manipulated by some.

They post the jobs with a fake id and then grant the jobs to themselves - and then create good reviews for themselves.

I have found from a lot of personal experience all freelancing site have 90% incompetent/garbage users.

You have to do some digging to really find the right people.

They are always slow for any non-basic task, but very cheap.

I can tell you how many bad experiences.

I haves them for years. I got some great people but I did find that it took a while and a few bad jobs to get the right people Escrow works but if they only have a few feedbacks I tend to escrow 30% - 50% to ensure the works get done.

They are worth it if you have ongoing jobs, not for a one off though. You will have to sort through a lot of crap to find someone who can deliver what you want when you want it for the agreed upon price. If you find that person, you are golden, but again, it can take a good deal of sifting through the usless people.

Unfortunately a lot of them are fake, but however if you really digging in you can surely find some rare honest persons that will get the job done.

There are a lot of "fake reviews" floating around on pretty much every freelance site.
But if you take your time and dig deep you'll most likely find some real gems.
And of course, when you've find honest workers you just continue using them.

i think you will find the right kind of people on the forum.. there are people who review services after they have purchased so you get your answers before you purchase

Not really, haven't had much luck. Most of my best workers I've meet on forums or through other connections.

The truth is that many potential clients are looking for very cheap rates from probably amateur or beginning pros who don’t know how to price out work or just hint the apply button and than deliver BS ..from the prespective of honest freelancers ,the freelance job sites are unproductive and not very promising prospects to find work ..as outourcer I will not accept bids for article writing from Bangalesh freelancer ! even if his english is good ..it make sense

Ah, a whining/griping thread. I'm going to go around it though and answer the thread title anyways. Certain freelance sites can be helpful, but they are definitely not the cure-all/easy money that they are made out to be to beginners.

If you have a great skill and know how to market yourself it can be a good place to start/practice. You shouldn't settle for the crap prices that a lot of these sites offer though, and that's where people run into trouble. They see a flood of lowballing offers and think that is what the market is.

We tend to look at IM books/courses as the stuff that usually makes stuff "too easy" (and thus deceptive in some eyes), but it's kind of surprising me that the same thing is happening on the service side and it's going a bit more unnoticed.

It's not easy, and you need a lot more than an internet connection and a laptop.

Freelance site are not really worth it.
I would suggest you to explore more in internet marketing.
It would be better if you go to forum site like WF, and social media there would a lot more possibilities that you can find the person and work.
You can also expand you network.

No more different than the real world I suppose. You have to conduct due diligence and factor in a margin for error. And always have a plan b. You might need to go through a few 'lancers before finding the right one.
And reputable sites for fake reviews. You might want to check who is giving the review in the first place.

I am sure there are honest freelancers on freelancing sites though finding an excellent writer has become near impossible. Most of the above-average writers are engaged or are offering their services at the Warrior Forum.

Many expert developers are working in different freelance sites. You can get high quality work done for a cheap rate. But you have to select the right person.

I have never have a good luck with them. When you post a job there are thousand saying how they can handle the job And when you hire them they will ask you a ton of questions, you end up training them when you suppose to save some time... and the job is not done well....and i can go on.

But I am sure there are some valuable candidate out there. but haven't had a luck to find them.

Freelance sites are crap, the majority of them anyway. There are some many people who bid on jobs it's unbelievable, you don't get a chance to do any jobs really. Not only that but there's a ton of Indian's who offer their services very cheap.

Well I got started making money online on Elance providing graphic design services and did very well for quite a long time.

As a buyer, I have found very talented people. I don't look for the cheapest person to do the job. I look for the most qualified and that means that they have so many reviews from previous customers that it would be impossible to fake them.

As anything, you get out of it what you put into it. Hire cheap, get cheap.

I was similar on vworker as a worker. Now I get people coming to me because I have done a lot of jobs and the reviews are genuine. I have even had a few repeat clients.
I never seem to have luck with Elance. I think it is because I haven't done work that I can't get work.
I also have private clients so they make up the most of my income anyway.

We were getting quite good video, motion graphics and design projects and clients from Elance a few years and months back, so it's worth a try, really. But nowadays I'm not having luck. It may be luck, OR it's that there are too many candidates for each project nowadays, and reviewing 30+ bidder info, portfolios and offers per project must be VERY time consuming if not impossible for the one who posted the project.

  • You can find people who are really talented in some freelance sites, you just have to choose your workers wisely.

You can also have them interviewed and test their abilities first so that you would be sure of what they can really do.

I have used freelance sites both as a client and a freelancer and there are real business opportunities in there. Obviously the quality spectrum is very wide and you can only rely on reviews + bids + interview
