Personally I love their products. I won't queue up for hours to get an Apple product, but I'd happy shell out the $$$ to get something I think I need (Macbook Pro) or stump up the cash for something that I don't need but cannot resist (iPad). So what can Newbies (And seasoned IM veterans) learn from Apple.
It's all about the Models!
And I don't mean their product range! Apple has a damn efficient business model! They funnel in $$$ by merging a number of separate business models and rolling it into one money making funnel.
So lets tear it apart...
This is some of the stuff Apple does....
*They manufacture their own hardware and software.
*They have their own offline stores selling their products and others.
*They provide training on using their products.
*They provide extended warranties.
*They allow other stores to sell their products.
*They have built a massive online sales platform.
So in internet marketing speak...
*Creates its own Physical Products. (iPad, iPhone etc)
*Creates its own Info Products. (Corporate training schemes)
*Generates recurring revenue via services (Extended Warranties etc)
*Generate revenue selling other peoples products (Similar to Affiliate Marketing)
*Generate revenue via eCommerce platforms. (Website, iTunes store etc)
*Grow their business using OTHER people (Affiliates)
And what does that mean to Newbies?
1) Plan your business to tie in multiple business models if possible that maximize your revenue stream.
If the affiliate product you are marketing goes bust so does your business. If you build a review site on a product what happens if it disappears? Make sure you have more than one income stream for your business so you can maximize your revenue.
2) Own your own product!
If you haven't got one, you need to start thinking about getting one. You cannot leverage the power of affiliates if you haven't got your own product.
3) Be Visible!
Apple uses multiple ways of funneling people into their sales process....and so should you. Have your own site and make sure that you are visible on all social platforms.
The important one...
Everyone is harping on about providing value to your customers...but to me providing your customers with a killer user experience is crucial. Make sure your products, services or content are to die for!
And to finish off...
I'm not saying that you need to be like Apple to succeed.....but you certainly need to have a business model and plan how it's going to generate your revenue for you.
