Just to be clear, I meant to ask: WHERE ARE YOUTUBE VIDEOS OK TO EMBED/UPLOAD?
(Phrased it wrong, wont allow me to change title) thanks to Kurt for pointing that out

I have been wondering about this for some time, is it legit to embed a someone else's youtube video

I SHould be more specific,

For example if I had a Website And Youtube Channel about Sneakers, May I add videos from

Youtube to that Website and/or Youtube Channel?

Any Feedback will be appreciated,

I know there are other people wondering about this as well........ Thanks

Yes it's legit, you're promoting the video for them.. Same thing as if it was posted on here.. It's another story and wrong if you're downloading the video and re-uploading it onto your site or channel..

I tried to search youtube for the penalties of reuploading other people's videos and only found that my youtube account could be banned. Are there any other possible penalties to this.
      Thank you in advAnce!

Yes - being on the wrong end of a DMCA C&D order and losing your hosting accounts and/or domains. De-listing by Google after a complaint. Depending on the laws of your country, being sued.

        Why are you asking?????

Yes it is legit to post the link to youtube site. All videos on youtube are in the public domain and is a term of their service. You can't obviously copy the content of the video and then claim it is yours

Wondering if anyone has had issues with this, or if they know its legit.

Would appreciate any feed for a while.

Hi, I have had the same question

I used to do this and I also saw my videos on other people's sites. I did not mind, they had my link included, which was actually helping my site get backlinks.

The question isn't really phrased all that well...

Yes, you can embed most Youtube videos on your own pages. When people upload their videos to Youtube, they have the option of disabling embedding, so if the embed code is present they have given permission.

No, you can't "copy" someone else's video, unless the video is Creative Commons. Users can choose to allow their videos to be used under a Creative Commons license.

You can find these videos by doing a Youtube search for your keywords, then filtering them by the Creative Commons license. You can also use the video editor in your Youtube channel to search for and edit these Creative Commons videos.

Another option is to create "play lists" inside your video channel. Every public video on Youtube can be placed in a play list displayed on your channel.

The difference between using Creative Commons videos and playlists is that the CC video "view" page will be your own and you control the title, tags and description, for the video(s).

Play lists, on the other hand, visit the existing video view page, created by the original user.

However, you can create your own short videos, upload them, then add them to the play lists. You can use these short videos as a sort of "commercials" and when the play list plays your videos, it will show your own video view page, where you can add your own links to the video description, etc.

Youtube gives you so many ways to ethically use other peoples' videos that you have to be a real klepto to steal Youtube videos. Instead of stealing, try:

Embedding on your own web pages
    Play lists
    Using Creative Commons videos

      Thanks Kurt,

And your right about my phrasing, I meant to include the word embed instead of Copy. I have no intention of copying anyones videos.

So the way I'm understanding this is, If the videos are categorized under a

Creative Common, then it's o.k. to use on our own website and Youtube

      Channel?

So if there's an embed feature it doesn't necessarily mean that it allows a

      Creative Common?

You can embed both Creative Commons and other Youtube videos on your own site, if the video owner allows it.

The difference is, using them on Youtube itself, in your own account. You can't use every video on Youtube on your own channel, except in play lists.

You can create "remixes" of Creative Commons videos and add them to your own channel. Then, you can add your own links in the description, pointing to your own web pages. This is really the key, having your own video view page on Youtube for the videos. You can get these pages only from your own videos or from Creative Commons videos.

This lets you take advantage of Youtube's own internal traffic. If you simply embed videos on your own web pages, you don't get the benefits of Youtube's own traffic. Of course, you can still benefit in other ways from Youtube videos on your own pages.

Uploaders can disable embedding if they don't want anyone to embed their video.
So, embedding is 100% legit if YouTube let's you.

You are NOT allowed, and NOT legit, to download videos and upload in your own website or in your YouTube account.
