Only happened once, and that was two years ago when I was first getting started with YouTube.

In all honesty, I was breaking the rules - I uploaded someone else's video without permission, and got banned (rightly so).

Fast forward to now, and I'm actively using YouTube as an additional income stream and so far have experienced no problems.

It can happen if you steal someone else's video or if you promote violence, illegal drugs, prostitution and things like that.

Also, best thing you can do is not use anyone else's copyrighted material, otherwise you are at risk of getting your account banned. That applies for images, videos and sound, too.

What are they cracking down on? Copyright infringement? Illegal content (porn, drugs, etc.)?

What I'm wondering is whether YouTube still allows you to promote affiliate offers?

And also... can you direct link or do you HAVE to send traffic to a website/blog first?

I direct link to Clickbank offers via a cloaked URL in the description with no problems. There is hours of videos uploaded every minute so there has to be some culling somewhere to keep the place in check. I don't like those awful Animoto videos tho and prefer to make my own with my own software. Make them interesting and engaging and more people will view them.

Those are some very good points. Thanks.

The thing is... we know Google isn't fond of affiliate marketers AND they own YouTube.

So... are there just so many videos that some affiliate videos slip past their detection or do they actually allow it?

I looked through the terms of service, but they don't seem to address the issue.

Just my two cents: put the links in after the video gets some views and takes off not before. Don’t direct link (even cloaked) link to your blog or website that has the offer with some additional content.

I'm a bit anti Google anyway, I dont like their policies. But as far as YouTube goes, there are literally 1000s of affiliate videos on there. Search for a WSO name and the word 'review' to bring up loads of these sort of products, something like this - http://youtu.be/f0wPrfbuepA

I've not lost a video yet and I have a few on there. I think if you were direct linking to the Clickbank URL it would trigger something and you could be at risk, but by cloaking it to a domain name it shouldn't flag anything and I imagine it'll pass their filters. I use PrettyLinks or sometimes free domains which I will cloak in Cpanel. So the domain in the description is something like -

        exampledomain.com/productone

I don't blame them for removing those thin Animoto videos tho, they are awful.

Woah, strong getting a bot to do the Likes, views and comments. The comments are hilarious. This is the kind of video that I would stay away from the person doing it.

I do agree that Youtube seems to be cool with affiliate links.

That isn't my link, it was simply an example of an affiliate product on YouTube. I use Microworkers for the comments not bots like in that video, they're a joke I'll agree.

Everything is cool, I just uploaded few videos and they are doing good. You might have done something wrong. I have been doing Youtube for months now. If you are not doing anything wrong, you are good.

I do a lot of dating promotion on youtube and have not had any problems yet but I am linking to my review sites not affiliate links. I do video content curation and do borrow some existing videos for that purpose and had one taken down but my account is still OK.

The rules haven't changed just that they have stepped up the fight:

    1. Start away from copyright material/content.
    2. No adult, drugs, death, e.t.c stuff.
    3. Avoid fake views.

In the beginning, Youtube allowed Ogrish/gore kind of stuff but they imposed the no deaths rule. Then, LiiveLeak exploded in traffic, the website is a must for those gore fellas (by the way, have you seen the stats of Bestgore? apparently the guy is not making money off it).

I've had plenty of videos removed from YouTube. They weren't Animoto videos and they weren't linking to an affiliate link either or using fake views. They were slide show type videos.

I think the YT flag system is flawed unfortunatly. I heard it only takes 4 flags and a video gets removed. How they can remedy this, I don't know.

I've never had any problems with the videos I upload (for Clickbank marketing purposes, what I usually do is a Camtasia recording of a product's sales page, members' area etc).

Then I direct link to the salespage, using a cloaked affiliate link.

Are there even five people alive who enjoy watching a slide show turned into a video? Those should be banned.

Dreadful. Those ones that have some crap music while pictures of Tables or Lawnmowers slide across are cringeworthy. No-one in their right mind would be tempted to buy a product after suffering through that.

I personally use Adobe Premiere and After Effects. I'm not a master but I learnt it at Uni years ago and have been practicing more and more recently. The videos are just polished and you have a great chance of keeping the audience engaged. The problem is they take a few hours to put together, but if they increase sales 10 fold then that time is well spent in my opinion.

Copyright infringement on Youtube is still a big problem. I'm not surprised they're deleting stuff, there's still plenty that should go. Plus, a ton of stuff that could barely be called a 'video' at all.

I have heard that copyright infringement laws are being exercised by some companies specially the music industry ,and youtube do state in their terms and conditions that you have to have permission for your postings...for that reason google has threatened a number of web sites that offer to convert the audio from videos into downloadable mp3 such as YouTube-Mp3.org

I agree many videos are not videos at all..

    hello,

Yes this it's not new, ytbe allways warn you as soon you create your account, to be carreful with copyright. that means do not copy any one song, video, movies... without his permission. But since people are lazy, they just want to copy , put a link and voila. but it doesn't work anymore with ytbe.

If you follow those rules you will be fine. No banning....

I haven't had any problem with Youtube vids so far, and most people shouldn't as long as they don't break Youtube's TOS or break copyright.
