how long to wait before promoting a product on email list?

Just curious, I only have 14 subscribers. when they opt in to my squeeze page they get a free e-book same day, and I have the second message sent next day for a clickbank product I'm promoting. I'm thinking on doing the second message set same day to increased the open rate, but I feel i would turn them off, annoy them, not sure. Whats your experience?

I would say that you should give them some good free stuff for at least a week or so before you try to sell them something.

If you will build a relationship first, it will be easier for them to
      buy from you.

Why not use a sandwich page?

    1. They optin to your offer.

    2. They are taken to a page where you deliver them the free information right away. Make it short and easily consumable. Remember, longer doesn't mean better. Some of the best secrets or tips are those that can be explained in just a few sentences.

    3. Have a link at the bottom of that page saying 'Click Here to Continue >>'
Have that link to your product or Clickbank product you are promoting.

See how it all flows a lot better and they get both the free stuff you promised them right away and they get their eyeballs on your offer instantly.

Over the next few days you can then followup with more free content. Again send them to a page on your site with the free content and then a link to the salespage.

Obviously you will want to test this way of doing things with your own market but it's definitely something you should be testing.

    Depends on so many factors:

    - Type of product

    - Squeeze page

    - How you pitch it

    - Your niche as a whole

    Ect..

Trust your gut and always be testing

I would say free information for two days and then a promo. You risk to lose your subscribers if you start promoting from the first day.

However, you can promote your affiliate links at proper places in your free e-book.That will certainly generate you some passive commissions.

That's most certainly not true. It depends on the market.

If I am looking to lose weight, sure, you might be able to send me some free content over the next few weeks and slowly work me into a sale.

If instead I am suffering from some chronic disease and am in pain and looking for some type of solution, I will want to find an answer to my problem as soon as possible. If you have the answer for me right away then I will happily buy it right then and there. If you don't provide me the answer, I'll keep on searching and get it elsewhere.

We live in a world where people now expect things right away. People won't necessarily sit around and read your emails for days or weeks before making a buying decision anymore. So you need to keep that in mind.

As always, test things with your own market. Only they can give you the correct answer.

The first promotional email that I send out is the third email in the sequence (including the first email that they receive upon confirmation.

I send emails on days 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 and then onwards, every 5 days. Every third email or so is promotional, but the affiliate link included in the email is something "extra" - I try to provide value in the promotional emails, as well, and the product that I am promoting is complementary to what the email is about.

First week - valuable information, bonuses, some information about you, successes and failures - this brings a trust. Next week start with promoting affiliate products.(only top products which you bought and you can wrote a quality review.. My opinion..

I would not start promoting affiliate offers right away. You need to build a relationship with your list so that they will like and trust you first. You should set up a 7 day email newsletter that isn't promoting any affiliate offer. It should just give useful information and maybe even some additional freebies.

The reason why I say 7 emails is because that's is generally how long it takes for a subscriber to trust you enough to buy something from you.

You also don't have many subscribers yet. I wouldn't try to promote offers until I got at least 100 subscribers. I hate to break it to you, but with that small list you probably won't make any money yet.

I hate receiving promotional email the instant I subscribe to an email list, and I assume others would too.

Right now I'm making sure I at least send 4 informational emails before I promote a product.

Yes, you would put the sandwich page as the confirmation link. Although for an even better end user experience I would turn your list to single optin so they don't need to confirm. They are just taken straight to the sandwich page and they are automatically added to your list.

Your prospects are generally their hottest when they join your list. That is when they are looking for a solution -- not 7 days down the track. If you don't present some type of offer to your visitors right away then you are most definitely leaving money on the table.

If you have a product that you genuinely think can help people then why should you be afraid to tell them about it right away? If I had the cure for cancer and some guy came up to me wanting it, would I tell him to wait 7 days so I can send him a few emails first? No, that's silly. He wants that cure right now. That's why they have come across your squeeze page and opted in because they are looking for that solution now.

By using the sandwich page method you can do both. You can give away great free content and get eyeballs on the paid offer without coming across as a hard salesman. It's all about flow.

I think you have your wires a little crossed here. Yes, they say on average it takes 7 exposures of the same message to get people to buy or take an action. This doesn't mean 7 random newsletter emails. This means the person seeing your product or sales message 7 times.

There are plenty of people I trust the moment I lay my eyes on them. There are plenty of people I still would not trust after receiving 7 emails from them. Time doesn't make people trust you more.

Yes but you are a marketer. The average person isn't on a whole bunch of lists like we are and are not getting hammered with products all day long. Don't base your decisions off of what you like or don't like because it won't be the same as what your customers like and don't like.

Most people are a little smarter today than 5 years ago so testing is still the name of the game.

Some say 7 messages some say 5 messages, truth be told it depends on the product, price and trust factor.

Some products I sell will be promoted in the 4th or 5th message (ie: aweber affiliate) in a free ecourse but another niche might require me to gain more trust before I pull out my offer based on my closing ratios.

So quit listening to the "gurus" and start testing this stuff yourself while your list is small. You don't want to make any major errors with 5,000 subscribers.

      All the best,
      Mad Guy

You can have the product that you wish to promote on the download page as " Recommendations "...Nothing wrong with that...Always try different ways to see the responds...Give some valuable info first before promoting the products would be better too
