Getting traffic from StumbleUpon

I've heard from many sources in my niche that StumbleUpon can give some amazing results.

I've created my account and I've been doing what they recommend (basically participating), but I can't seem to get my pages into their stumble rotation.

I might not be understanding how this thing works exactly. Can anyone share any expertise with me?

    My understanding is that the traffic from there is going to have a super high bounce rate anyway .. with the average person only spending around 15 seconds on your site. Its bad traffic that you probably dont want anyway.

      It's certainly possible. Depends on the niche I suppose. A lot of sites in the personal development niche seem to swear by it, I figured I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn't at least try to test it out.

        Yes it can work very well in the personal development niche. I wrote an article on one of my sites an posted it to Stumbleupon and it was viewed 52k times in a week. It's true that you will have a very high bounce rate and people won't usually hang around too long but it is definitely a way of getting some extra traffic to your site.

        Another bonus I found was people would see the article on Stumbleupon and then if you have a 'Like' button or other sharing icons on your site, they will then post it to facebook or share it with other social networks they are active on. I still receive a decent amount of traffic from facebook and Linkedin where people have lliked or shared my original article that I submitted to stumbleupon.

        The massive flow of traffic I received from SU in the first week of posting my article has certainly slowed down but I've noticed every now and again I experience another sudden spike in traffic. So in my opinion you should definitely give it a try.

    Ya. I suppose. StumpleUpon is one of the best social bookmarking site. If bookmarking your site in StumpleUpon, definitely you will got traffic for your website.

      In other words, so far nobody knows anything about it.

      There are two ways to get Stumbleupon traffic:

      1. You become active in the community and follow other Stumblers in hopes they'll check out your faves too, or

      2. You buy it. $5 a day gets you 100 stumbles, and you will likely get some number of organic "free" stumbles. SU isn't forthcoming on how that happens but it does happen. I received 65 "free" stumbles one day.

      Music and photo pages (or pages with graphics above the fold) work best on SU.

        When I was browsing stuff about SU, I got this impression as well. Have any experience with organic SU stuff?

          No, I don't have the patience or the time to try to attract followers and influence people. Actual stumbling annoys me anyway -- there are pages in the SU index that are nearly 10 years old. Might as well be written in Sanskrit on clay tablets.

          I figured I could do something else productive with my time, then pay SU 5 cents a stumble.

          For those who are complaining about bounce rate: Bounce rate isn't everything since you don't know if they're leaving because they weren't targeted accurately to begin with or because your content isn't sufficiently attractive. I've seen a lot of IM blogs and I'd go with the second possibility. A sense of humor, good graphic design, accurate spelling, appropriate punctuation and basic grammar go a long way.

    It can give amazing results only if you will share great website content and information. It will basically reach more than a week to see traffic but it you will be focusing on socializing and adding connections then you will see results sooner.

    I've never been too sure about Stumbleupon, largely for reasons above, that its not the best quality traffic, or so I thought.
    I had previously focused on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, the latter being the most successful.

    It will help you create loads of accounts and Stumble your sites, creating a load of traffic from Stumbleupon. I got hold of copy and it's ideal for this platform.

    I tried stumbleupon traffic about 4 years back. I got some traffic but that traffic didn't converted well for me so I stopped using that.

    StumbleUpon definitely can boost the traffic, but the conversion seriously bad. I hired a VA just to do SU and Pinterest, and not surprisingly, all my sites running SU and Pinning system have 90% unique and at least 2-3k visits per months.



    The niche selection is important, but mainly humorous or sites with beautiful/cute pictures get shared.

    Even with huge traffic driven from SU, I am not getting more than $10/mth from my google adsense.

    So from my brief experience, article's backlinking and multi social bookmarking services still works best.
