Why are they asking for my Clickbank Vendor ID?

Some membership sites that have the free signup option, ask for your Paypal address and your Clickbank Vendor ID.

Now, I understand, the Paypal address is used to send you payments for members you refer to their site, using your ref link. But why are they asking for the Clickbank Vendor ID?

I realize this might sound like a stupid question... I have a feeling that it'd hit me within a few mins.. but right now, it is driving me crazy... why the clickbank vendor ID requirement???

Is the membership site sold through CB?
They sometimes ask for the id so that they can display affiliate links for you.

If it's not sold through CB, then I have no idea. Maybe they do have some other products that are sold through CB and they want to display the aff links for you.

My guess is that its probably a legit site you signed up for... there is no security issue with providing your CB ID. (unless they asked for your password as well)

if its a site for you to help you make money, then its probably so they can display CB ads for you. but you should tell us what site it is, maybe some of us have heard of it or have an opinion on it.

@ KirkMcD .... not necessarily sold through CB.... but owner has the option to do so I believe

@ Harvey Segal... it is the Vendor's ID that is requested, not the affiliate. (offtopic: man, back in the days, I used to drive a lot of traffic to your ultimate super-tip report )

@ MN Warrior and jayl830 .... it is one of the many traffic exchange sites that run off the butterfly marketing script. But there is no mention anywhere of rotating random CB prods with upgraded members' vendors' IDs or the likes. This is why I was a little confused.

On the signup page, there is a message just above the sigup box saying:

"Input your information, and be sure to include both Paypal Email and Clickbank ID."

Which would give the impression that the CB ID is mandatory, but it's not true. The CB ID and the Paypal address requirement can be set to optional (as most owners of such sites do).

Sounds like a traffic exchange/list builder of some sort?
Sometimes these sites will rotate random clickbank ids of upgraded members in the on site ads and email promotions.
