Beef.ca Help with selling domain name?

Hi guys,

I have had this domain name for a very long time, and to tell the truth though the Canadian Beef Association (a billion dollar association) would come banging down my door years ago when I bought it.

Well, they have not, lol. So, I am looking for any advice you might have on how to best get top dollar for it.

I thought about writing to a few high end food companies, but I understand this type of solicitation is not legal.

I have bought and sold quite a fw sites, etc., on Flippa, and it has done well for me (about $20,000 in the last two months) but I know Flippa only works fr domain names if you can get the targeted audience in front of the domain, no easy task.

In any event, I have posted it there, a little a loss on how to best build it up in value other than the few specs you can see there. I invite any advice on this. I know there are experts in here.

Maybe I should set up a JV finders fee for it? Thoughts?

This is what I have so far: https://flippa.com/2812077-beef-ca-premium-highest-value-4-letter-ca-domain-ever-on-flippa

Did you contact the Canadian Beef Association? Any other Beef companies? It is not illegal, as least in the US to contact them regarding your domain name. Many people do it and I have sold some domains at good prices by emailing people that I thought would be interested.

I did contact just about everybody in the beef world, with a formal letter no less, and not a single reply. Odd indeed.

First, that is most definitely a premium domain name!

I would think twice about selling that on Flippa. Clearly you don't have much experience with premium domain names and that could cost you big.
The thing about the domain market is that it's really a case of timing, of one buyer, one seller, happening to meet up in the right place. Domainers hold lots of domains and the timing of when a specific name sells is anyone's guess. For them, its a numbers game... there is always a couple in transaction out of their domains. For those who only have one or a few, it can be very frustrating, expecting to sell it, if it doesn't because it's not the right timing to meet that elusive buyer.

I'd look for a premium domain name broker who will start approaching high end buyers on your behalf. Sedo is one option. There are others. For research, to learn more, go to Domain Name Journal - The Industry News Magazine at DNJournal.com and start getting familiar with the market.

Oh, and BTW it is NOT illegal to approach relevant businesses to let them know you have a domain they might be interested in. However, you do need to do it correctly, or someone could accuse you of spamming (which it is not).

    Good luck.

Thanks so much for the advice. My lawyer says Flippa can not enforce an auction out of country, though that is dirty pool.

I will definitely raise the BIN, not sure what is a good number.

Thanks for all the advice, I do appreciate it!

You can't raise the BIN after there are bids on the auction. You can only lower it. I'd contact Flippa support and tell them to cancel the auction.

Are you insane? putting that domain up with a $1 reserve on flippa! I guess you can't pull it down now, but I'm betting you'll be losing your shirt on this one. OUCH.

If you can't stop the auction now that it's met the reserve, the only choice you got is to let as many people know as possible to try to get a bidding war going. Start advertising everywhere you can and try to let PREMIUM buyers know because I don't think you are going to get what that is worth.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out. ...

      Thats right, I agree.

This domain is really premium one. You still have 28 days to reach premium buyers and redirect them to your Flippa listing

Just one more thing. I'd reconsider the "Buy It Now" price. Basically that sets the MAX you could get for it... and if I were a domain investor, I'd snap it up at your Buy It Now price just when the auction heats up to the point where it might go higher (and theoretically it could).

Make sure you contact Flippa support to try to cancel the auction rather than just closing the auction, which would result in a winner.

I don't think you should have posted this...

Hi guys, I just raised the Buy It Now because a thread on Warrior Forum is cooking up about the value of this domain name being through the roof and that basically I am nuts to sell it here for starters, and at such a low BIN with no reserve as well. It looks like this is a $100,000 domain name after all. We shall see!
It makes you sound as if you doubt the true value of your domain... Also, I should note that you can't broker this as a domain sale now, as long as its listed on Flippa. (You'd be violating their terms when someone buys & you don't complete the sale)

      Hi Caleb,

Thanks for your comment. If and when I get in contact with a broker, and we establish a market that perhaps is not on Flippa, I will ask Flippa to kill the auction. I know they cannot force a seller to sell, or a buyer to buy (same as eBay).

Note this from the terms of service...

        6. No Double Selling

You agree that if you, as a Seller, purchase an Auction for your Website, then, for the duration of that Auction, you will not advertise or offer to sell the Website through any other third party service or make direct approaches to potential purchasers outside Flippa.com. You acknowledge that the purpose of this restriction is to avoid you potentially entering into agreements to sell your Website to two or more purchasers at the same time and to help provide Buyers with the assurance that should they purchase the Website from you via Flippa.com, they will obtain full title to the Website. Note that this restriction does not extend to Websites listed as a Private Sale.

        ---

Not trying to get ya into trouble, but I don't know how that works with cancelling auctions. IMO you pretty much have to sell via Flippa...

When you cancel an auction, it is no longer active and your are outside of "the duration of the auction".

This clause just means you can't sell on Flippa and other places at the same time.

If you want to sell outside of Flippa, you need to cancel the auction first.

Unless it has changed, you can't just cancel an auction that already has bids. You can close it early, but that will result in the highest bidder being the winner if the reserve is met. Under those circumstances, Flippa is the only one who could cancel the auction for you, if they would.

    Hey Ron,

Something you should also be aware of is that there are quite a few rules and regulations put forth by CIRA which is the registry for all .ca domain names. Before sale makes rue the purchaser meets the Candian Presence Requirements put forth my the registry which are located here: http://www.cira.ca/assets/Documents/...trants/CPR.pdf

If they don't meet those criteria they cannot own a .ca domain name.
