Make a portfolio site with your previous projects. It will help you to get more clients.

I think you need your personal site and you can try another marketplace.
I hope you will be successful.

What is your hourly rate set at one oDesk? That's one of the first things I look at when scanning replies.

Go to Craigs list and in the services section in 3 major cities offer a killer package that they cant resist. Give it a title like "The best computer XXXX package on Craigs list bar none!!!"

      XXXX being your service.

With one craigs account you can post to 3 cities. The ads have to be unique so use a spinner etc..

      I hope this helps,

Warriors for Hire is a good place to put a listing. You need to have a great portfolio though.

That's virtually how I started. I offered $10 per month all inclusive (built and hosted) 4 page Web sites, custom built and have built up a nice permanent monthly income.

Thomas here has a point. Give away a one page design. If they want a whole site, upgrade them

Knock doors of small local businesses with a tablet in your hand with your website / portfolio already loaded.

Have a printed price list at hand - mark the prices up 50%...

Dress smart, be confident and make sure that your portfolio looks great on the tablet. Tell them that this month you're taking on new clients for the first time and as such, you're offering a 25% discount on the printed price list.

Then say, if they sign with you now, you're offering 50% off. Don't act desperate and say this is a promotional offer for clients who you step through their door. This is not Online or anywhere else and if they choose to call you later this month, only the 25% discount will apply.

Some will take action there and then. Plenty of business owners act on impulse.

Of course you have the standard online ways too. Freelance sites, Warrior For Hire Thread, Link to Portfolio from forum sigs... But the truth is if you want to make real money in a tough industry you have to grind... Get your hands dirty...

Good things come to those that wait, better to those who chase.

        Good luck.

i had this problem in the past

try fiverr.com and then take them to a website for other upsell offers.

another way is this forum, put a classified advert, or do a WSO, that will get you more orders, just have some samples ready as warriors will want to see that.

    hope that helps

I would try fiverr. Let them pay for one page and do another one for free. When you have booked them, offer an upsell or upgraded package.

You could offer to do something for them for free if they recommend you to paying friend.

    Have you looked at Guru.com?

You could also try signing up to a whole heap of directories..

Fiverr is very good for the amount of people who use it to get jobs done..

oDesk is a good place. Just you need to have previous projects portfolio and well explained cover letter on how you will handle the project.

Also you must take some related tests.

Your questions can be answered by question, too.
What can you offer that others can't? If you're offering something that is exactly the same thing, you may find it difficult to convince your potential client to leave his current provider. You should always be two steps ahead of your competitors.

Try adding more items in your portfolio. When someone's hiring, he wants to know about your previous work, so you should emphasize your previous work.

    Try these:

    1) Promote yourself on CL, kijiji & B2B directories.
    2) Create portfolio & share it with leads on odesk, elance & other platforms
    3) Go to scriptlance/vworker, they you get more leads for design work
    4) Be ready to talk with clients who want to talk & dont communicate through emails/chats...

This way u can get better leads
