Should I use my Name as domain?

Hey there, I want to start a blog in IM niche, so I was wondering should I use a relevant domain name or can I use my name as a domain name.

One reason I want to use my name as a domain is because I want to establish myself as an expert in the IM niche (Right now am working in a Company as an seo specialist).

Let me have your views.

You can use your name + some SEO words. Like Internet marketing with Anoop Chawla etc. I think you are on right path as you decided to launch himself as a expert.

I'm not saying you won't succeed, but it will be like trying to learn to surf using only tsunamis to practice on.

      2) I use my own name for my blog. JaRyCu.com. It makes an affiliate sale on occasion, enough to pay for my hosting and buy a few domain names. You just have to make sure to brand your name in a way that people will remember it. From a Westerner's point of view, your name is already fairly unique. I don't know how it is for you if you're not in the US, though. Is "Anoop" a common name, or is it unique as well?

      Hi mate, so Why IM?
because this is what I am doing right now (SEO Job) this is the topic I have studied the most, I can write about it daily and its my passion.

Also if in case I pursue full time job in some company as an online marketer, I believe having a full fledged blog about online marketing will give me a boost and a better salary.

Let me know what you think?

I think what JaRyCu already said above (post #3).

I also think (in fact a little bit more than just "think", to be honest) that "going into the IM 'niche' " is one of the single commonest reasons for people failing to make money online, when they could quite possibly have earned a decent living applying their skills to other niches.

But if it's really your passion, and if you really have something completely new and completely different to offer, and if you can communicate that really effectively so that your site's strikingly different from those of all the tens of thousands of others who try this every month, and substantial numbers of people will subscribe and actively look forward to your emails, so that the deck isn't very firmly stacked against you as it is for most people who try this, then go for it.

That is a very good reason to use your name in the domain name, either as part of the domain name or the entire domain name.

You can also use your name in a phrase or thought... since you're looking at creating an IM blog maybe you could use the "news and fresh ideas" approach and do something like TheScoopFromAnoop.com

If it's your own personal blog - then yes, I would go with your own name.

If it's a blog that's not neccesarily a 'personal' one - then go with a name that you will have an easy time branding, something that people are going to recognize.

That's fine, but I would add something catchy or memorable. Also it depends on the name itself. If you have a long or hard to spell name, I would go with a nickname or shorter name.

Personally you should only use your name in the URL if people already know who you are or you are doing a portfolio such as journalism or photography. Personally if i was you, i would create two different website, one on your name and one in an SEO related URL and the link the two websites.

Why not do a blog in SEO? If thats what your an expert in you will have a far greater chance of succeeding as you will be writing from an experts point of view instead of just the usual tripe that every IM beginner would come up with.

Whether or not you use it for your IM business, I think EVERYONE should own a domain name corresponding to their real name, if at all possible.

Since you said that you are branding yourself as an expert, so my answer is yes, go ahead to use your name as your domain name, it would help in your branding.
