I have never seen that as long as you follow the rules you should be fine.

Nevermind Paul explains it all below to you, it's not allowed just follow the rules.

I agree with you. As long as you follow the rules and read the terms and conditions, it should be fine.

I wouldn't want you promoting your forum on my forum.

Would you want other people promoting their forums on yours?

    Of course not.

    Why?

Whatever the purpose of a forum is, it's to keep people posting on that forum. Why would anybody work hard to build a successful forum only to let others (you, for example) piggyback onto their hard work and try to take their visitors away?

Personally and professionally, I'd nuke you in a heartbeat if I found you on my forum promoting your forum.

Forums aren't bastions of free speech contrary to what others think. Forums are private enterprises. Private creations. Posting is allowed as long as it's ON TOPIC.

Post to a pet forum? Keep the posts about pets and whatever else the rules allow.

If the forum says NO SPAMMING or no promoting your products, services, or other websites, then guess what? You don't do it.

If you do, the hammer comes down.

No hard feelings because it all depends on forums.
That is their forum and they have all rights to ban any one.

Then don't make it a rule in your forum. No-one from here will go there and complain about it.

We don't allow it here. If you've been banned for it once, the next ban will likely be much longer if it's needed.

Let's say you owned a nightclub, and you worked hard to make it a popular place. If the owner of the competition came in and started yelling about the drink specials or cool DJ or celebrity at their club down the street, would you find that acceptable?

We carry it a step further. We also don't allow bashing of other forums here.

This is a rule on many forums. It makes sense for the reasons described by Paul.

There are many other ways you can promote your forum but to name a few.

Don't get disheartened by the comments here but rules are rules that is fair enough.

If you want to promote your forum and believe it is great then you will find a way.

Good luck with it in the future and keep us posted.

    Glen,
No one wants his members/customers taken away by a competitor. It takes years of hard work to establish a successful forum and once you are there, you would naturally like to protect your member base.

Forums are like any other business. They need to make money to pay the bills and for that they need more and more members. Why would a forum allow its competitor to come and lure away its members?

It doesn't really matter what you think is unacceptable when you're on someone else's property, does it? You are not allowed to spam/self promote here either.
