    Yes, very much so.

As long as you use them for their intended purpose (which happens to be the only purpose they can fulfil, anyway).

There's no real point, value or benefit in trying to use them for their own traffic or for their own backlinks, though. Both of those things have some real potential downsides, these days (but of course they're not what article directories were ever for, anyway).

In other words, it's essential to understand clearly how article directories work, before trying to use them.

    Ezine Articles.

Over the last 4 years, at various different times and in various different stages of my article marketing career, and in a wide variety of different niches, I've used countless article directories, but the longer I do this for, the more I come to the conclusion that, for me, Ezine Articles is the only one worth using, really.

I do also occasionally use ArticleBase and GoArticles but I claim no benefits at all from either and am wondering exactly why I bother.

But - again - understand clearly that it's a bad thing, not a good thing, to get your potential customer traffic coming to you through an article directory, and that article directory backlinks are worthless (and too many of them can even get you penalized, these days, as many Warriors have found to their cost, and as Google has explained openly).

But they are "still worth it", yes - very much so - provided you appreciate what their purpose is.

I agree with Alexa. Submitting to Ezine Articles is definitely still worth it just as long as you go about it properly (using the directory for what it's meant for).

Even after all those Google changes, I've still been submitting to Ezine... and I'm still getting my content syndicated, I'm still getting traffic, I'm still getting subscribers, and I'm still making money.

I certainly don't suggest you use directories for the purpose of getting traffic from them, however, if you submit content in the more "risque" niches, you could still gain some pretty significant traffic and sales directly off of Ezine itself.

Do you know of any factors that can make an article more likely to get syndicated? Could you perhaps link to some of your successful ezine articles so I could get an idea of the kind of thing that would work?

With apologies, I can't offer to do that, because I don't disclose my niches; and like any article marketer, all my EZA articles have originally been published on my own websites first, so that would also be giving away my niche pen-name, because I have to use the same one at EZA as I do on my own site, of course; please excuse me.

Ok thanks. I think I will have to hire a writer to get it to the specs you gave in the link.

Also - the resource box advice you gave. Should I avoid saying something like 'to get my free report about niche X click here'?

Ideally, your resource box is almost an extension of each piece that you write. Sometimes one resource will work for multiple articles, sometimes you write a different one for each piece. Here's an example of what you should aim for with a resource box:

"...and that's when I knew that the aliens that abducted me were not a friendly sort. It was time to prepare for war." [Article body ends here]

Fakey McPhakerson has been battling the alien menace for twelve years. To read more about his struggles, and to see what you can do to help, visit his page for The Resistance. [Hyperlink "page for The Resistance"]

Yes, definitely! That's "writing for clicks".

            Here's the point ...
            • If you get your articles syndicated to the right places, you don't really need a "call-to-action-ish" resource-box, and if you don't get them syndicated to the right places, it doesn't matter what your resource-box is like; writing for clicks reduces syndication-chances.
That's a pretty nice resource-box example from Joseph, just above.

Worth mentioning that you shouldn't spread your articles too thin around on lots of article directories and this will dilute the strength of your article in the eyes of the search engines.

Wil Reynolds founder of SEER Interactive recommended article directories in a keynote speech at Affiliate Summit East 2011. You can find it on Youtube

    Hi,

Yes, It is defintirely worth to submit good articles to improve SEO of your websites.

I used only SEO to push my website to rank on page no 1 in Google for the keywords "Financial Help for Single Mothers in United States" and "Financial Help for Single Mothers in Canada".

You do not need to worry about Google Panda, Penguin, or any other Google animals attack.

    Haha..

Honestly, Articles really work. Articles marketing will bring traffic and will help you in keyword ranking too. This is one of the best link building methods. Make sure you use your keyword in the anchor text and most of the directories are do follow.

Article marketing will always be worth it if you're executing it correctly.

Are your keywords being searched for?
What sort of websites are you competing with for your keyword?
Are your articles unique and well written?

Without looking at your site, it's hard to tell what you're doing wrong. But these are the sort of questions you need to ask yourself.

Also, look into other methods of generating traffic other than backlinks.
