I am trying to determine when to launch my first product.

I am really itching to do it now but my product isn't quite ready yet. The first is a book and it probably has a week left of writing and editing to do. I thought about putting the cover up and advertising it now to my list.

I am sooo paranoid about someone jumping the gun on me writing the same thing fast because I am not the fastest writer.

Try to launch it when it's ready and of high quality. You never want to rush the making of a book you write cause then your quality will suffer.

Launch it only when it is fully ready.Meanwhile try to get as many affiliates as you want.

Make the announcement to your list 4-5 days before the launch. In that way, you'll be able to build some pre-launch buzz.

I totally agree with this. Set up a pre-launch buzz with your list and on here at the Warrior forum. People will sense your excitement that is coming though on this thread. Build anticipation and when it is ready next week you will have immediate interested prospects for your launch.

If you set a date and name it, you also have time target to hit.

I look forward to seeing your product.

Set a realistic date and aim for it. If you are constantly refining and perfecting it, you'll be pushing things back.

Spend the time now as well to get the sales copy right, and maybe open up a prelaunch thread where they can optin.

Oh, review copies can help your testimonials too

Launch it when it's ready to go. Not before and not after.

Exactly. If you launch at a certain time in the day there will be more people online to see your product however, there will also be many more people launching and bumping their thread to gain that exposure.

I myself bumped my thread yesterday afternoon USA time and moved down around 15 places in under an hour receiving little exposure. If you promote at a time when traffic is lower then you will stay higher up for longer.

In short there's no right or wrong time to launch.

    Two schools of thought.

    1. get it out there as soon as possible and allow your product to bring back stats and metrics. your readers can provide you with valuable information for improvements and higher profits!

    2. get it perfect. This can be beneficial too but perfectionism is not a trait that works too well for many marketers. You are always going to find things that can be improved upon and the best way to identify them are via your readers.

bonus number 3. Marketing. Get this aspect wrong by not doing enough laser point marketing and the best product in the world will flop...

If you have a ton of energy to burn up then invest it into marketing.

    Good luck.

You can possibly give a free report to your list and warm them up for your upcoming product. Do what you have to do and get the product ready, but do know that your product will never be perfect, so don't keep holding it off....

Here is what I do? Make schedule, set targets and follow them. That's an easy plan. However, you need not launch it if you're not ready. Because if you launch it now then you are not going to feel good about it. Give you best, your buyers will like it and you'll feel great about yourself too.

Didn't you know that the Mayans predicted when your product would be launched?

They stopped creating their calendar because they got so excited about it

Reid Hoffman: "If you aren't embarassed by your launch you've waited too long" ;-)
but then again this is more for startups, for an ebook it's best to launch w/o delay once it's "good enough", every second delayed is potential revenue lost!

Yes, the book isn't complete so I do actually have to finish it.

I suspect this first thing is the scariest and most difficult, and the subsequent offerings in the funnel will be easier.

What section is good for a pre launch thread?

I think that is a great idea to keep me honest and be encouraged and others can read the thread and be encouraged.

Where would you post a pre-launch notice? Won't the mods take that down

if you are really excited right now about your product, then you should also be writing to your list pre-selling them on it. use your excitment to get them excited also.

That excitement and energy will translate through your writing.

Consider releasing a few review copies to those people who can not only give you great feedback but are also willing to help you create the "buzz" for your product.

Most of us don't have the luxuries of "book editors" so use some of your "hungry audience" to help you craft your work and market it at the same time!

I have to agree with Matt Carlson. If you want the launch to be truly successful, start recruiting some affiliates and putting together materials for an affiliate area. Help them start to build buzz too.

Getting other people involved in your success like that can put more fire under your butt to get the product perfect and ready to launch.

Don't forget to find an accountability partner to keep you to whatever deadline you set!

..if in years to come you look back and you're not ashamed of v.1 of your product you launched too late.

I do get the desire to want it to be as good as possible and avoid too many issues, but if you're not careful you'll never get to market.

When you put your BEST into it, then you should launch. But, before anything be sure to contact some marketers ahead of time to see if they would be interested in promoting it to their list for commission to get things turning. Here's something that works well also, post on facebook that you are giving away 1 - 5 copies that you will be choosing for the 1st 100 likes, you'll get a TON of interest, then chose who you're giving your copies too. Then, once you accumulate over 100 likes, at the end comment and let them know you have a affiliate program
