Want Free Amazon S3 Training?

Hi,

I see a lot of questions about Amazon S3 and most tutorials out there leave a lot to be desired. How many of you would be interested in attending a FREE webinar on how to effectively use Amazon S3? It would take place in the next 2 weeks or so.

If you are interested, would you post your questions on this thread so I can make sure I address the issues you are concerned about?

Thanks,

Wil

    Hi Wil

I'm interested in getting started with both Amazon S3 and EC2. My questions would all be from a developers point of view, I've cruised the Amazon site and downloaded some sample code but honestly haven't had time to play with it yet.

"Where do I begin as a developer?" would be my first question.

Please keep me updated about your webinar.

    Aloha

I bet a lot of people would be interested in that.

However using s3 from the file hosting perspective is not complicated at all.

Here are a couple helpful tutorials:

How to use amazon S3 to stream your Camtasia Videos

S3 amazon streaming content with subdomains setup

I was planning on sitting down today and making a 2 minute tutorial video that will show all 99% of the people who want to use s3 need to know about using it as I am releasing an s3 file protection utility today.

Most tutorials out there are just too wordy.

I might be interested if you can keep it short...my attention span is running low these days.

Thanks for the links Josh - I would be very interested in checking out your tutorial if you decide to create it. I'd also like to hear more about your file protection utility.

I'd be interested too so please take this as permission to contact me.

I've got a few items on my idea list/notebook - now at 68 pages ;-( - and one is about a product to dynamically create/destroy webservers as needed - and Amazon's EC2 seems to fit the bill. Especially running lighttp for static content. Add some load balancing and DNS and it should work, except for maybe DB intensive apps.

The OS images used I understand come from rPath here in Raleigh, NC so was hoping to hit them up for some advice as well. But figure I better know what I'm talking about before asking - I know how developers are and you not RTFM'ing - so any tutorials, especially like Bill said from a developer point of view - would be very interesting to me.

    thanks!

I am interested in the following:

    - Cost estimates for 250GB storage + 2500GB/mo bandwidth type of WEB app.
    - Cost comparison with other offerings on the market.
    - From zero to hero step by step tutorial.
    - Scalability and load balancing done the "right" way tips and tutorial.

    Hi Wil,

thanks for being so fast with the webinar offer -- and the tutorials.

I have to check out the tutorials Josh has posted further down.

    Here's what I need:

I have several humongous packages (half a gig) that I have resale rights to and would like to actually sell. And S3 seemed the place to host them, but I haven't been able to figure out the first thing about how it works.

Everything on there is geared towards developers and is all greek to me.

So I'm looking for a very basic tutorial, how to get into my "space" or whatever, where I can put stuff, how to set it up so I can allow specially authorized people to download it, etc. Does that make sense.

Babysteps for people with basic hosting and downloading needs.

    Thanks a million!

@Ellisabeth, yes, that makes complete sense and is inline with what I am planning to do.

@Gleb, the cost estimate can be done very easily. It is simple math really. Amazon gives you exact cost for storage and data transfer, so you just have to multiply. As to your other suggestions, I will definitely try and address them on the webinar.

@Bill, I probably won't be doing much as far as developer-based training. Very few people need this type of input. If you require specific assistance in this space, hit me up via PM and maybe we can arrange something separate.

@Jack, I am not planning on covering EC2, which is a different technology altogether (although it can use S3). If you have needs for additional information or instruction on EC2, hit me up via PM.

Everyone else, keep the questions coming. :-)
