Competitive Advantage

Hello all,

I'm pretty new and I could use some ideas being spitballed.

I'm a very technical guy. I have a couple niche websites. I think I've used a good strategy in finding them. However, I am terrible at writing. They are just sitting there. I have purchased a couple articles from a service. My plan is to continue to do that because I cannot write.

I'm wondering if it would be better to keep outsourcing the writing to a service or hire a content writer (somehow).

Currently, I got a second job waiting tables to pay for the services because I would rather do that than write. So, I'd rather not get suggestions on making it easier for me to write.

It really depends on your budget. Content writing is definitely one of those things that you get what you pay for. A full time content writer would have to know how to write informative and persuasive articles, ebooks, blog posts, and more.

It may benefit you to keep outsourcing and find specialists in each of those areas. A writer who can do all those things can be cost prohibitive in the beginning. But if you're at a point where you can hire someone, I'd say pursue it. A consistent voice in your content that can help you build a list (a major asset!) and convert those leads to customers is worth every penny.

I think you know the answer, but yes you should outsource a writer and possibly test a few and then consider hiring someone that does a great job as content manager.

I think these days on how Google's algorythm had shifted and the power of social networks and viral marketing -- that you should get involved in markets that you are passionate about.

Is there anything you like to talk about, which you are very knowledgeable about and like to learn more about? I would go with that and you can build out a site better and you can post about those things yourself and network with others on Social networks and related blogs, and forums.

Think of writing as talking or sharing what you know, but you're just typing it out. Just about everyone can write and authority sites that have content that is easy to understand and is written in casual way, beats out many of the writers I've checked the samples of on Guru, and Elance.

You want the content to be enjoyable not like a dry and wordy essay. Just think of talking to your audience, but you write what you're saying.

I think writing is a mindset thing for most people, but it definitely helps to be passionate about a topic, and that you have a site around a market, and not a micro niche so you can expand your content much easier. Just focus on longtails and writing for the people and networking to get started.
