list building questions

Hey guys, I am looking for some suggestions on how to build a list and start selling to them.

I have read a few different peoples suggestions saying that ad-swap is a good option to get started from scratch. Where you build a squeeze page and ad-swap to get people to sign up for your offer. I cant seem to find any good list building courses/wso. I'm sorta looking for one that will take me by the hand and show me how its done start to Finnish.

I would like to know does anyone know any good blueprints for any of these methods, from start to finish?

    Hi reww

Yes. I highly recommend you to watch the video from the best internet marketer Frank Kern List Getting Video Part 1

There is a lot of psychology how to build a list, why you need him, and also the tech part in the 2nd part of the video. Highly recommended.

    It must be helpful!

Nothing gets people to give you their email address faster than something free that has value to them. I've made free reports, video courses, heck you could even do a free wso. I have even paid for traffic to get people to sign up for my free offer. Once you create a list build a relationship and trust before blasting sales offers to them. I fought building a list for many years and man was I an idiot. lol. It's a simple and powerful money making tool. Just take care of it and it will take care of you.

How would you choose a domain name for the site? How important is it, i.e. would you rack your brains for days or just whip up something fast and simple?

And how do people find this elusive offer? Do you just randomly go find an affiliate program? How does that work?

    Hi Reww
Ad swaps are a great way to help build a list further, however to be really affective you need to have your own list. Usually you would contact other owners of a list and basically swap an ad Kinda like solo ads only you would do it free between the 2 of you and send the same amount of traffic to each of your offers.

Like the guys here have suggested you want a capture page and a free offer. then drive traffic to that offer. The best way to do this IMHO is to run a solo ad to it (there are some really great warriors offering this service).

Start off with a small run (100 clicks) and check the conversion rate.

This is a fast way to to drive traffic to your list, obviously there are tons of ways to actually get traffic to it some paid and some free.

I like to use solo ads to test it all first then use a variation of methods like video, facebook etc.

Another tip - only use email address on your free offer to begin with I have removed the name part on my first capture page and seen massively different results as people don't really like giving their name away at the beginning, then later down the line when you start driving those subscribers through your funnel this is where you want to get a little more personal and ask for a name (just what I do and have seen better conversion rates from the outset).

The making money part from the list is an entirely different part of the method all together.

You see there is list building which to be honest is pretty simple, then there is email marketing which obviously go together but like I said are totally different.

Mark mentioned the video by Frank which is a good watch and worth spending the time to watch.

Hope this helps a little more

You'll find a lot of WSOs that talk about list building and many of them are really good, just search the WSO section and see which one will work for you.

Ad-swaps are a good way of building a list and also solo ads. However, I'd suggest you do a post a Free WSO to collect leads, it might cost something like $1 per subscriber but it is totally worth it since the traffic is targeted.

TIP: You can price it very low like $1 or something to make sure that the subscribers you get are buyers and this the best type of subscriber. A buyer is a buyer even if he bought something for just $1.

Also another thing I'd like to tell is make sure you build your copywriting skills a long the way, since this is the most important skill in this business. Salesmanship in print.

The way i set up my own list building system is i use free traffic in combination with paid traffic

while im building my list with things such as ppc and solo ads i am building my free traffic at the same time

i leverage my IM blog which is a major component in my list building system

before you start driving any traffic though you need to have your entire system set up so it works in the background

if you don`t have your system set up your going to be struggling from day 1

Hello, ad-swaps are a good idea, but the problem is with ad-swaps and if your new with no list you have nothing to swap, just do solo ads, or free wso's because the wso section is filled with buyers and it's better freebie traffic than a solo ad blast.

my 2 cents. get solo ads and then do ads swap.

Building an attractive landing page is one thing, but you still need traffic.

The methods mentioned above all work well. Especially in the "Make Money Online" niche. If you are looking outside of that niche then I suggest participation in a forum that allows you to have a signature at the end of your posts. Some niche forums won't let you do this and some won't let you till you hit a certain post count.

Provide value and it will drive people to your landing page.

  • You guys have recommended running WSO's for free, but if this guy is a newb with no earning experience, you haven't told him what WSO he can run for free, or where he can get things from to run one for free?

Personally I've never run one or built an E-mail list in the IM niche so I wouldn't know.

I haven't found any easier way to build a list (from zero) than buying solo ads. You can also try a mini Giveaway event if you can find a few contributors to help you out. Problem is, you have to have the knowledge to build a landing page, track clicks, leadership board, etc. to do this.

THE 2 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS WHEN LIST-BUILDING:

    1.Value.

    2.Relationship.

People only buy from people they trust, and people they like, one of the first rule of sales.

On that initially opt-in, you need to offer something of real value, and never mislead your customers.

Continue to provide that value, while building that relationship as well, and when you do market to them, make sure the offers are not only relevant to their interests, but good solid products that you've tried yourself.

    Hope this helps

Oh, one last thing I'd mention. In regards to the traffic you drive to your squeeze page(s) I've always found the best results come from good soloads.

    All the best.

Yep. Offer something for free e.g. a PDF file: e-book, report etc.

Do make sure that you're using a third party email list management software and not something that you've installed on your web hosting.

An effective way of building a good list is providing a value proposition to a person . People will share their email address if they know they are getting something in return. What is it for me thinking. I know one of my client participated in an event and had an strategy that each person who signs up with his company he will donate 25 cents to a local charity. He got 1400 emails . So you see in this scenario people had the feel good feeling that by giving their email address they are giving back to the community.

Hi, well you have to provide value and avoid lying. What I mean is that you need to give to people for example an eBook about something interesting, but the content should provide what you said that will be on it. And if you want pm me I'll send you some free squeeze pages that I have.
    Good luck

wow thanks guys for all the suggestions . You guys have given me a lot to work on.

I have a bit of a squeeze page set up Link to the page please make sure you dont click any of the links because its not set up and the sign up is not set up yet. Its still a work in progress.

What do you guys think about the page im not really sure on how I can improve it. I set it up basically looking at some other pages i could find on the net. The free report is one i bought the resale rights to.

I don't mind paying for traffic or paying some one to set up the squeeze page or copy. I would just like to know is there any good wso/courses that show pretty much every aspect of setting it up and set up tracking and how to write good follow up emails?

      Hi reww,

To optimize your squeeze, I would suggest placing your optin form at the top right, you can always have a second one at the bottom as well. Also, if you are using an image or a video for example, put it under the headline and keep it above the fold, so people do not have to scroll down to see it. Most won't even bother to go and look.

Just curious... what do you guys mean by "solo ads"? Are you talking about Google Adwords or Facebook ads that point to your landing page?

A solo ad is when you pay someone with a list to email your ad to their list. If done right it works really well actually. They usually guarantee a certain amount of clicks for the price you pay. Also, depending on your offer and the list, etc, I've had as many as 40% sign up.

Check out this site http://www.soloaddirectory.com. It has some solo ad sellers at the bottom to get you started.

    Hey Reww,

I can give you some guidance on List building.

We built a list of over 30,000 affiliates into one of our businesses in a 6 month period. Send me a PM and I can guide you with your start up.

You already have Frank Kerns link above which is awesome. watch his videos.

I like your squeeze page. But it all comes down to how it converts. and it needs to be tested

Search for "SPI 044" and "SPI 045"
Some of his thinking is different from the usual.

Doing it his way is free, right, but it ain't quick.

Well, here is my advice, its not revolutionary or something, its about gaining trust from your viewer.
Some people depend on SEO, some depend on a squeeze page while building it, while some making a huge list without much strategy, well, let them be. But the result is not guaranteed. A guaranteed result is something you build over consistency, continuity, and setting expectation each time your viewer visit your website.
One doesn't simply make a lot of traffic overnight.

A squeeze page doesn't have to be elaborate. Depending on your niche, you could put up an ugly squeeze page and still get killer conversions. As long as the information in your "freebie" is in demand... many people will sign up to your list.

I know there might be an oversaturation of " JV List Building Giveaway", but I know that if Willie Crawford is still joining them and listing a freebie, there must be something to it. So by all means, check them out. Original product is better, but you can find plenty of stuff to giveaway. If you're able to put together an OTO, you can also get paid for building your list as well.

I'd be interested in seeing how your getting on/ how you are progressing. I am unable to PM yet though. My email is seanpbh@gmail.com.
I also have a blueprint which has really helped me, Id say it could help you too. Look forward to hearing from you!

Get yourself a site, offer free things that are useful (not full of rubbish) so that you can make a name for yourself and get the trust of those who are going to give you their email addresses.

Then advertise yourself on many avenues so that you can send traffic to it.

    Best of luck.
