Have I bought a dud domain ?

Hi there,

I bought an expired domain through GoGaddy ( PR6 and 6k backlinks).
Before buying, I did all the normal checks - it is indexed ok , and I clicked through on hundreds of the backlinks which were all fine - used ahrefs.

HOWEVER - when I query my site using the "link:" command in google, I get a big fat ZERO - no links?

Can anyone help ?

Cheers

Pat

Google doesn't count spam links anymore. Buying a domain with 6K backlinks after Penguin is not a good idea, as Google may penalize just for the backlinks. Also, buying an expired domain with pagerank will likely lead to complete loss of the pagerank within a month or two. It rarely ever lasts on an expired domain and is often fake pagerank when bought on expired domains and even not expired domains.

      Thanks for the reply,

The site was all about internet copyright issues, and the backlink profile is excellent with a lot of links to high pr sites including Wiki and universities, and the links are pretty much all contextual. My idea was to recreate the site along the same lines. Just thought it'd be easier to rank an aged authority site.

But now all those links are just putting out 404's and Google doesn't like that.

          Hi Suzanne,

Every link I click on is live - no 404 messages , and every tool I use tells me the links are active - the only problem is the link: prefix command shows up zero.
