The best niche is the one that you actually know something about.

My point is that asking others what niche is "good" is a recipe for failure. Let's assume I tell you that "power tools" is a good niche. While "power tools" might be a good niche for me because I'm a carpenter and know all about them, it doesn't mean it's a good niche for you, especially if you've never picked up a drill or circular saw in your life.

Whatever niche you posses some knowledge about. Something you can actually write about, in case you don't want to outsource everything.

For example maybe you're into photography. Cameras are always a good choice in Amazon promoting, though it's a pretty competitive field.

So basically it all comes down to what you know and/or are passionate about. When you'll scale up, you can gather some other info along the way.
Until that point keep it simple and stick with something you know.

A little keyword research won't hurt either.

Hope this makes sense, have a great day!

IMO, niche always come down to traffic and keyword research. If you're really on SEO, you need to focus on mini-niche's, or specific products themselves.

I personally think when it comes to Amazon, reviewing certain products in particular is the best bet.

    hope this helps.

Unfortunately, this is why there are so many garbage websites online and why so many people fail at IM. The two reasons you mentioned above are what it comes down to for amateurs. For folks who actually know what they are doing, it comes down to offering value to your visitors. You can't do that when your only qualifications for a niche are traffic and keyword research.

I think that's more opinion than fact. I more than anyone will stress that value and relationship are the most important things in this industry. Perhaps you misinterpreted my post, or I could have worded it a little differently.

What I was trying to say, is from a newbies perspective, it's easiest to start out by focusing on mini-niches, as they're easier to rank for. You don't need to be an expert on a subject to offer value to your potential customers.

With the greatest of respect, I found your post quite condescending, I appreciate I could have put more into the post or perhaps worded it differently, but there's no need to speak to people like that.

This forum is all about contributing, helping people, and working together. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but we're all gentlemen here.

There is no "best" niche. You just need to make sure the niche you go into is profitable, one you have an interest in, and one you know a little something about. It just makes it easier to generate content and connect with your audience and what not. You should also promote higher-priced products as well as cross promote products as well in order to boost your commissions.

Basing what niche you should chase based on how much you'll make off of commission is not really the best way to start off.

Do proper and thorough keyword research and look up profitable "item" keywords (preferably those you can provide meaningful/helpful content for). I often come across TONS of keywords when doing raw keyword research (with no word filters) that are perfectly suited for sites aimed at making money through amazon.

It's not condescending. It is what it is. How much value can a webmaster possibly offer a visitor when the webmaster knows absolutely nothing about the topic at hand? This is why we wind up with a bunch of 4slicetoasterreviews.info sites telling me:

"4-slice toasters are great because they toast twice as much bread as 2-slice toasters. It's a fact that 4-slice toasters toast more bread then 2-slice models and that's why you should buy a 4-slice toaster instead of a 2-slice toaster."

This kind of garbage comes from amateur webmasters who know absolutely nothing about their niches/products but are targeting them because they are profitable.

I stand by my comment - understanding your niche is the paramount qualification to building a successful website. The other stuff only enters the equation after you've got a niche that you are knowledgeable in.

Hahaha, yeah I do completely agree with what you're saying, but that example in no means is what I was suggesting the guy goes for. I was just generally assuming he was intended on building a multi-product website for a fairly broad niche, which, is going to be incredibly hard work, so I suggested he go for smaller niches.

I didn't feel it was relevant to outline it should be something he knows about, as this is a given, you can't give a proper review or write proper content on something you don't own or understand it's as simple as that.

The point I was making was work mini-niches, rather than the big ones, that's my opinion. I never mentioned pumping out a load of crap purely for profit.

But on that basis, i of course agree with the point you're making, just found your original post a bit abrupt that's all.

Unfortunately, it isn't a given in many (maybe even most) situations. I think that's why you see so many questions like OP.

Hey- you stole that from an article on my site that I paid a good $2 for. Now I'm getting a 'duplicate content' penalty because it's here too!

I spun it for my 'shotgun' website.

"double-barrel shotguns are great because they toast twice as much game as single-barrel shotgun. It's a fact that double-barrel shotguns toast more game then single-barrel models and that's why you should buy a double-barrel shotgun instead of a 2-slice toaster."

I guess this is where my abrasive side comes out. Yes, start over.

All you've offered me is info that I already got from Amazon. Hence, the point I made earlier in the thread.

I don't backlink my own sites. I simply bookmark each new product review that I post. Since I target easy-to-rank products, that's usually all it takes to hit page one.

Yeah, as blunt as Wolfmmiii is, he's right. You've done a great job building the site, it has great functionality, and is aesthetically quite nice, but there's no reason why people would use this website when they can go straight to Amazon for the same thing, or get an actual, genuine review elsewhere.

      Hope this helps.

To be a little less 'abrasive' than wolfmmiii... that is just a cookie cutter website with an Amazon storefront plugin.

The problem is you add no value and the big 'add to cart' button at the bottom of the item pages doesn't look like 'Amazon'.

By simply using scraped Amazon content, you are undermined with Google and will have a near impossible time ranking without a lot of work.

It will also convert poorly compared to a site that offers real value and an 'outside of Amazon' opinion.

If you can find a cheap source of paid traffic that costs less than it converts (pays), then you could make money with the site. But that's a skill in itself to get the kind of targeted traffic you would need for this site.

It would actually be much less work for you to build a good review site (this domain and niche is not bad) than to try and wring money out of a site like this. It is definitely not 'set and forget'.

I have purchased and use wolfmmiii's WSO and it is excellent. His WP template is also excellent. I would (and do) take all his comments to heart.

By the way- he is nowhere near as abrasive as some posters on WF!

Running after a big commission per sale is not really advisable for newbies. Why? because most of these niches have very high competition. I started selling toys that costs $15 and below and they were selling like hotcakes. people will not hesitate to buy products with lower cost multiple times than buying products with bigger cost.

For example, a person needs to think several days before he decide to buy a camera that costs $500. By the time he enter his CC details, your cookies are gone.

A person needs only minutes to buy $10 toys, not one but many toys that he may find attractive...

Right now, I am running several Amazon sites in a number of niches and things that costs lower gives me more money that those things that costs higher....

    Just my experience...
