How hard is it to make money with Amazon affiliate scheme?

I'm thinking of starting up a website to promote tech items aimed at a specific niche.

I'm wondering how hard it is to make money if I implemented the Amazon affiliate scheme into the site.

I'm a newbie so any advice for starting with Amazon?

Thanks all!

Anything takes work - but it is definitely possible to make money with Amazon. If Amazon is selling things that fit your niche and people are buying them - then go for it.

Search the warrior forum for posts about Amazon - there are some great posts that will teach you a lot!

I can tell you it is far easier to make money with Amazon than Adsense. And your account is far safer as long as you are following the TOS..... For a long-term business plan, I recommend Amazon Associates.

It's pretty much the highest converting monetization method tied with adsense

What's the difference? Amazon pays more

True. I just started with Tom's strategy. Got my second site delivered today.
It was that thread that introduced me to him and got me on this road.

I love Amazon.com both for affiliates and the site itself. I also love getting commissions on unrelated items that my visitors buy.

That what makes Amazon a great affiliate program. Forget about the one day cookie.. It's not big deal.. Someone who has a credit card ready would likely to buy something...

I really should try to make Amazon work. I've not had success with Amazon, but I've not given it my all either.

      Hi. I've had mixed results.

My best website was a tech one targeting a phrase that people were searching for on Google. I've had the site for years now and, and for a good while it was No1 on Google for my key phrase. I was getting traffic and the commissions followed.

My site is still No1 on Bing and Yahoo, but nowhere to be seen on Google. The commissions are poor now. Google makes a massive difference to traffic if on the first page.

I also had Adsense on the site and that boosted the income.

This one site when at it's best covered a quarter of my salary so tried very hard and spent a great deal of time with other sites to replicate the success but it didn't happen.

I defiantly think you should go for it, despite my mixed results.

It sounds like you want to do it so you should go for it. You never know, this could be the best move you've ever made.

Making money with amazon's affiliate program is easy. You generally get good conversion rates from the products that gets listed on your site. You can either promote it with a blog, mini niche sites, or an email newsletter.

It depends. How good are you at getting traffic to your site? To me, being an Amazon Associate is a numbers game. If you can get enough traffic to your site and then to Amazon, chances are you're going to do fine because Amazon does an excellent job of getting the customer to convert.

I get poor results from Amazon. The payout percentage is very low and the cookie expires fast.

I think its very dependent on what you are selling, the price the items are soled for, competition and how you rank for keywords. Taking into account that many people create technological amazon affiliate site, due to the cost of the products being so high, you could struggle ranking with the site.

Wow, I really learned a lot from this thread. I wasn't aware of the commission, I just work for someone who makes me post his amazon link. I will try to learn the ropes by heart.
