What are the differences between super affiliates, and ordinary affiliates?

Super affiliates are about 5%, and make you the bulk of your affiliate income.

Ordinary affiliates don't earn you a ton of money, and some have no idea of how to market your site - even if you give them marketing tools.

No matter who you get... get the customer name and do backend marketing to them.

Super affiliates are what they say they are, super. They are the guys making the BIG bucks.

First one that pops in to my head; Ryan Deiss.

The guy is a genius and making money, lots of it.

Ordinary affiliates - they are the guys who are making money, maybe a lot, but not as much as these super affiliates - no where near as much - they can't nearly produce the same amount of volume as these super affiliates.

I echo Ryan Miligan. It's the amount of sales they bring.

In response to Randall's comment about getting the customer's name and marketing them on the backend... I hope you will not use the affiliate to bring them to your sales page and capture their email address with a Free report opt-in, then NOT credit them should they buy later. That is dirty and was brought to my attention from a seasoned marketer. Once word gets out, you will have lost your credibility with affiliates. May work in the short term but your reputation will haunt you for the rest of your life.

If, however, you get their emails after a sale and market to them in the future, then that's legit. Not sure what Randall meant when he said to "get the customer's name and do backend marketing..." but just a heads up to you about treating your affiliates right.

Obviously super affiliates end up making more sales for you than the others, but what do you look for in a super affiliate?

    1. High degree of authority and integrity in their marketplace - size doesn't usually matter here - I've had super affiliates for my products with a few thousand people on their list, they get very high conversion rates because their market trusts and views them as an authority

    2. High degree of fit with your product. Many people go wrong here - they assume that just because someone has a fitness site that they will sell a ton of their weight loss ebook...but looking more closely they may see that the fitness website is targeted more toward men's weight lifting where you may have a product that targets a women's fitness program so the fit is just not entirely there.

    3. They like and endorse your product. Some affiliate will simply pump out a canned ad or stick your graphic on their site whereas others will personally endorse and continue to promote your product personally to their list - the latter will end up to be super affiliates. This is why, for me, super affiliates for my products have typically come from relationships I have formed with affiliates from seminars, email, skype conversations, reviews where they have talked to me, etc...

What you really want to do is find a good list of candidates, pursue them based on a no-obligation review of your products, follow up to see how you can help them or how you can help each other jointly and then if the relationship feels right, put an offer in front of them and look at it as a long-term partnership rather than a one-shot affiliate promotion.

The good part of doing this is that once you have a few super-affiliates, other serious players are naturally attracted to you and you can expand your affiliate base with some momentum instead of always chasing.

No, they don't usually find you. How are they going to find you if they don't even know you exist? These folks have options, and have offers thrown at them daily, so the odds of them just stumbling upon your product in Clickbank or wherever are slim to none, especially in the beginning.
        {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[6954742].message }}

In the beginning, you want to be very proactive on both forming relationships, getting people to review your product, helping super affiliates out and then having them promote your products.

Once momentum builds, others will then find you (or at least take less work in getting them to promote)

Competitors watch what the others are doing - if lead players in one market begin to promote your product, you can bet others will take a much closer look.

I find if you can bring in 2-3 lead players in a given market - the door begins to open on its own...

In terms of what do they look for in a product:

        1. Relevancy and value to their market - the top super-affiliates want to know that your product is positioned well within the desires of your marketplace...they have a keen eye for what sells, what is in demand and what is not. That's why I like to include these people in my product development process so that I get their feedback AS I build my products and marketing campaigns

        2. Professionalism and good sense of marketing...they need to know you have your act together with your sales page, sales funnel and conversions...part of that is purely their look at your sales tools, the other part is any proof you can bring to the table

        3. Commission and Continuity - Most super affiliates have a minimum commission amount in mind and definitely like programs that have back-end, up-sell and continuity strapped to the offer so they can maximize their return for the promotion

        4. Relationship - in the end, many super affiliates will promote if they like you and feel that you are trustworthy and that your relationship could be mutually beneficial over time

        5. Tools & Marketing Support - super affiliates are super busy...th emore you can pre-market for them via valueable reports, video series, content, pre-done marketing material like emails, ads, graphics, etc...the better chance they will both take your product on AND more actively promote it.

        Jeff

A super affiliate is an affiliate who has more clarity about what he/she's doing. Therefore they are buying more attention and doing more sales.

Super = Bigger (in this case)

    More volume.

I think the main difference that got them there was their mindset.

I think what maintain's them in that position is their daily publicity budget.

But I could be wrong since I am not a super affilitate...yet

It is quite obvious that super affiliates make more money than ordinary affiliates. The question is why the term is created. It is created so super affiliates can make more money by teaching how they make money in affiliate marketing. It is simple. Brand yourself as a super affiliate and people will get attracted to your products like bees to honey.

Super affiliates are generally the people with big lists and/or big marketing budgets. These guys generate most of the sales and these are the guys you would like to get to promote your products.

The 80/20 rule applies to super affiliates and ordinary affiliates. In any marketplace/affiliate network, the top 20% affiliates generate 80% of all the sales.

They're terms which (as you can see from some of the comments above) are used by different people with different meanings.

When vendors are using these terms, it seems to me that they're typically referring subjectively to the quantities/proportions of their sales which affiliates bring in. On ClickBank, for example, vendors with highish sales volumes find that 10% of their affiliates typically produce 90% of the affiliate-referred sales, and vendors with really high sales volumes find that 5% of their affiliates bring in 95% of them (the higher the sales volumes, and the more statistically significant the sample-sizes, the more polarized the results, in other words). By "superaffiliates", those vendors are referring to that small percentage of their affiliates, I think: it doesn't really mean much more than that. And it clearly isn't an altogether objective term, anyway.

I must say I find it pretty hard to think of a description of this term according to an affiliate's monthly income that's helpful or significant or meaningful (or indeed verifiable) to anyone.

I think the "ClickBank vendors' example" description I've given above is actually useful to them, thougj, because the experienced, successful ones are so well aware that those are actually two different "groups" of people in some realistic and meaningful ways. For example, if they ask affiliates "What matters to you, as an affiliate, about my product?", there will typically (as shown in many threads here) be two very distinct and polarized types of answer to that question, from two different "types of affiliates". The majority will typically be concerned about matters of almost no interest or relevance at all to the minority, and vice-versa (this is one reason it's so easy for new vendors to misunderstand what actually matters to their incomes, because they tend - understandably but often mistakenly - simply to want to attract "as many affiliates as possible", and sometimes they do so at the expense of losing the 5% they actually needed to produce 95% of their sales).

Super Affiliate status has to be "earned"
In our affiliate program there are a few people with super affiliate status: becourse they send so much quality traffic to our site, we pay them a higher percentage then "normal affiliates". And yes, some of these guys make well over $1000 a day
