How many articles is enough?

I would think it depends not only on searches per day, but also the quality of your competition.

So it might not be possible to give a really definite answer.

I may be mistaken though.

I know of one person that has 60 quality articles written each month - and he's been doing this for several years now. He then distributes these articles among the top article directories. In addition, he employs "link getters" whose sole job is to find other sites to get quality links from.

Needless to say, this person has top rankings in a very competive niche.

Now here's the deal... the answer truly depends on the niche you're targeting and how much competition there is in that niche.

All things being equal - and they're really not - you can work your way up in rankings with time and effort. The effort is the hard part: SEO, Articles, backlinks, Web 2.0, Blogs, etc.

Being that you're only concerned with articles, I'll have to tell you that article marketing is only one part of the SEO equation. If your niche isn't that crowded, you might get top rankings in a short time with only a few articles. If it's competitive, it'll take more articles and more time. Thus, there's no definitve answer.

For every product you want to promote you should write 30 articles.

It's not the searches per day that you need to focus on but the competition of the other pages ranking for that keyword phrase.

Check out the page currently ranking #1 - how many back links do they have and what type? Are they from authority sites? You'll need to get a similar amount and type of backlinks to take over that spot.

I could be wrong on this (input appreciated) but I don't believe that submitting 50 articles to, say ezinearticles, will give your site any more link juice that just submitting one. I know the back links will show using various back link checker tools, but I'm pretty sure you won't get 50 times the juice from having 50 article submitted to the same article directory. Of course, you will get more traffic, but that is a different issue.

Look at guys like Sean Mize or Lance Winslow. They have over 10,000 ezinearticles to their name (Sean uses Sean Mize and Sean R. Mize for his names). If they wanted, they could have a thousand articles each pointing to a an extremely competitive niche and totally dominate it. They could own all ten listings on the front page of Google for any keyword they choose.

Google wants a quality experience for is searchers, that's why I believe my premise to be true. Agree? Disagree?

As long as you have fresh ideas and content to share with. Even though you have lots of articles to be submitted, but the quality is poor, baclinks isn't good as well.

I think the point is whether your articles is interesting enough to lead the audience to your website. Just imagine if you have a clickthrough rate of 50% or more, and people love your articles and website, you will be "auto seo" by social bookmarking sites.

And yes, this takes time and patience.

Hard to say, it all depends on the quality of the articles but also on your competition. Do not forget that you are not the only one wanting to get the first position.

This will depend on the keywords you target since some are more competitive. Keep on posting those articles until you see the results you want. Submit the articles to article directories and bookmark them.

My view would be similar to many expressed in here so far.

Quite simply I pick my fights wisely ... if the strength of competition is overwhelming then I try and find an alternative phrase.

If you are using articles to promote affiliate products, it may shock you to hear that I am over cautious and work on 1 sale per 1000 clicks until proven different.

It really depends on the comptition. I have gotten to and holding a number 2 spot for my solar site from only publishing 10 articles to about 50 directories. However I had other means to building links as well.

My belief is Article Marketing is not at all a numbers game any more. I mean you can still write 100, 200, 300 or more articles a month and can hope for the best.

But nowadays, the scenario has been completely changed. Now you need to focus on creating only quality content and getting highly relevant, authority backlinks to your article pages.

That's it. You need only two things:

1) Quality Content

2) Relevant Authority Backlinks

You also have to estimate your first page competition. Market Samurai is the best software to check this competition. You can use SEO for Firefox or Keyword Spy toolbar to find the first page competition.

Check their quality of backlinks and then decide your backlinking strategy. I am sure if you keep doing this for few months then you are bound to get good long term results for your efforts.

In my humble opinion, I think it would be more valuable to use a more broad approach to SEO, than just posting x number of articles..

You need to provide the no. of competition as well in addition to the demand for a particular keyword to get a more accurate estimate. If the keyword you're targeting has zero optimized page in the title tag, one article is enough.

It is dependent on the competition. That is why analyzing the competition before pursuing a niche/keyword is pivotal.

My guess is you write and post 1 a day or 1 every 3 days, and in each niche and the trick is you have to keep doing that for the lifetime of your blog or until you sell it.
Your site needs constant food (content) to keep it alive.
