I need advice on best video camera to buy for shooting video...

Hello folks!

I'm getting ready to shoot some video (about 12 hours worth, to be exact) for a info-product I'm in the process of creating...

I was just looking for some advice on what type of camcorder I should buy. I have a Canon Powershot 750SD (digital camera) that does shoot video, but it only shoots at MAX 20 minutes at a time and the quality could be better.

Any suggestions? Obviously I need it to have the ability to download to my computer either USB 2.0 or Firewire....

Brand I'm flexible on. I'd like to spend $500 or less at this point...

Bump it up to just $600 and you can score the Canon HV30 which is the best buy in that price range.

Even though it is a tape based camera you can use firewire to capture direct to your computer or laptop if you need.

The benefit is you get a great camera with true HDV.

    Josh,

Looks great, but I don't really know if I need HD capability at this point... I see on Amazon it normally runs for $899... that's a pretty good price drop!

The key is not to make the same purchase twice.

You can capture Standard definition video with it too, it has a mic input, it has a 3ccd image sensor.

If you are going to buy anything in the $500 range you'd be throwing your money away if you got an sd camera that lacked the prosumer features the HV30 has.

      Check out:

And the good thing is that when you need HD... you will have it.

    Hi Folks

This is my first post here and a bit nervous!!! and a total noob in IM!!! (-1)

Agree with the above recommendation to go with the HV30. I believe Canon is coming out with the HV40.

I'm a a videographer. (That's my niche I will be focusing on). Planning to create my own e-book on this field (How to ...)

If you own the Canon XLH1 family (goes for about $10K), you can use the HV30 for playback so you don't put wear and tear on your baby.

Also, the HV30 does 24P (means "film" look) and not the "video" look

Updated: March 28: You can shoot in HDV and downconvert to SD (Standard Definition) for web streaming. Then you can create an HD version and upsell that version ...

Tip: If you want your video to be professional looking for talking head shots, use a tripod and good lighting (recommend a softbox). Don't get a friend or family or Uncle Charlie to hold the camera ...
