Could This Concept Be Applied to Internet Marketing?

I did a search and didn't find this. So, even though this may have been shared elsewhere, it just blew me away so I thought I'd throw it up. Aside from the fact that this is an amazing presentation and concept, I wonder if the X Prize model could be applied to Internet Marketing efforts? More on that in a second.

Kinda long, but seriously. Watch this when you get some time.

Watch time = a little over 1 hour

I know, the title of the page is a little Hypie. And, the lack of play/pause is annoying, but give it a chance.

Thoughts
First of all, this made me feel like I was thinking way too small. Building niche sites and selling ebooks? This guy is sending people into space!

However, I am not delusional. I realize, that (for most of us), this kind of stuff is a bit lofty.

So, that said, how could this model be applied to IM, products, or Online business in general?

The reality is that if you're even reading this, you're in a very unique position. Making money on the Internet seems like a pretty normal idea to most of us, but the average person on planet earth still works a traditional job, and doesn't even know that IM is short for 'Internet Marketing'.

We're on the fringe.

Thus, while none of us are likely going to be holding multi-million dollar prizes, what if we could use this same concept to say:

- grow a blog
- sell an info product
- get new members to a site
- Increase email subscribers

etc...

Brainstorm
If you made it this far in the post, let me know how you would apply the 'Prize' model in the video to your own Internet business. I'll go first.

WSO
This may have been done, but what if you had a really great WSO offer that helped to teach people something really useful. Then, you created an incentive for people to buy your product by holding a competition. The person who achieved the best results from your advice would get a free flight out to meet you wherever you are, or 2k or, whatever... This could potentially help you generate a lot of interesting content and sales. Similar promotions of products have been done, very successfully. E.g., Tim Ferriss book launches.

Social Media
Increase the likes to your facebook photography page by giving away $400 to the person who both shares your page and posts the most amazing photo they've ever taken.

Hiring Programmers
I hire a lot of programmers, so what if I made a post on my blog or forum giving away cash for the best web developer lead?

Your Turn
Anyway, I'm just spit-balling here.

What would you do with the 'X prize' model? Have you done something similar in the past that worked well as an Internet Marketing contest? Let's hear some of your ideas and experiences!
