3 Benefits Of List Building

I see so many newbies who struggle on how to get started in the Internet Marketing game. I always advise people to start with list building. Below is a short list of 3 reasons I feel list building is so important for building a long-term business.
  • Relationship building: People purchase products from people they know, like & trust. This gives you an opportunity to develop a real relationship with people before they make a purchasing decision.
  • Targeted: The people join you list because they're interested in your niche
  • Passive income: You can set up your email sequence weeks or months in advance, go on vacation & still make money!

This is just what I came up with off the top of my head. What do you think? Care to add your own?

  • I agree. And, as a newbie trying to build his list, I'd be interested in how you'd recommend we go about it. Specifically, how would you recommend we can start driving traffic to our squeeze page?

      Hey Sebastian,

      Great question.

Personally I like to use solo ads for most of my traffic, however it can be pricy if you're offer doesn't convert. Here are some of the ways I drive traffic.

      Free
      • Article marketing
      • Forum Marketing

      Paid
      • Solo ads
      • PPC

      I hope that helps!

Traffic generation is accomplished through a mix of both free and paid methods of advertising.

Free methods of generating traffic are centered primarily on content, which means using method like:

      * writing articles
      * giving away free, vital reports
      * maintaining a blog/ syndicating content
      * Ezine advertising (free or paid)

Not just "passive income", but if they enjoy their membership, it will become a long-term relationship.

  • Yes, solo ads is where I plan on starting too once I have my squeeze page up. I've heard you can buy ads for as low as $0.25-$0.30 per click. Once I reach 200 subscribers, I'm hoping to find people to do swaps with and build it from there.

Personally, I would start ad-swapping with a minimum of 500 subscribers. It will be easier to find prospective ad-swappers.

Yes you should easily be able to find solos in that range. Although I would be careful & not do too many swaps. People on your list might not like the influx of emails. Generally I only do swaps once a week or so.... but that's just me

For anyone on the fence about building a list; it's a must in my eyes.

You basically have a list of people (hopefully buyers) on tap, meaning you can turn the cash flow on and off - it's like having your own online ATM!

Along with the relationship building, I've found three $5K a year copy writing clients on my list - which was a happy coincedence.

Having your own list of buyers, combined with a decent knowledge of email marketing is probably the easiest and most passive way to make income online.

I agree that relationship building is a MUST with your list. If you have no relationship and they don't have a clue who you are, it's most likely they wont buy anything from you.

  • Yes, timb. I intend to have my own email campaign running and then just do one or two ad-swaps per week while I build trust. At least that's how I've come to understand this works.

Another reason is that your list is a real asset that can be sold! Buyer lists are very valuable. I sold a list of 8,000 buyers last year for a tidy sum. The key was that I didn't sell it to another guy like me, I sold it to a larger corporation that knew the true value of proven buyers in their specific market.

So if you're building a list of prospects AND buyers, you're adding more core value to your overall business.

Sell a small, random sample of your list with a description of the type of product and/or niche.

You're spot on with what you say. It's fine in itself building a list and offering a free item in return for a first name and email address, but you have to maintain a relationship with your list and give them decent information or they will quickly want to unsubscribe.

why when you talk of relationship building do you not have a picture of yourself on the squeezepage and give away something other than a generic "bold claim" that is on every other squeezepage?

You can start with solo-ads and get a couple hundred signups, then market to them slowly, while giving good content, that's how I did it. It paid off big time!

List building is the deciding factor to whether your internet business will last or not. If you just focus on getting traffic from search engines like Google and make money by selling products without getting their emails, another cute animal by Google is gonna kiss all your future cash goodbye.

Building a list is like buying a very blue chip which gives you dividend in the future, and these dividend is just gonna keep going up without any risk of capital loss (which is supposedly caused by those cute animals).

    All the best!

If you don't believe in building lists, you should have your head checked.

Google changes. Facebook changes. Click through rates fluctuate. So many constantly changing factors.

Build a list. Then you don't have to worry about it as much.
