Welcome to the Warrior Forum. Some easy ways to increase your traffic are to find forums in your niche by going to Google search and putting in (your niche + forum). Add value to the discussions. Answer peoples' questions. Add your site url to the forum signature. When you do this on forums that get a lot of traffic, it will bring you lots of traffic and backlnks.

You can do the same thing with blogs. Find blogs in your niche. Start with the ones that are constantly outranking you. Make relevant comments. The only place you should add your url here is in the website url section. It also has a lot to do with writing content on stuff that people are actually looking for in your niche and getting ranked for the right keywords.

There are many methods, but I'd say two of the most effective are SEO (as mentioned in above posts) and creating fresh content. This will help with your ranking and should therefore draw more people to your site!

You didn't specify whether you were looking for low cost or paid methods. Therefore I'm suggesting you go for the paid method here, which is the FASTEST way to increase website traffic. So the two paid methods for this would be to set up an ad campaign with Google's Adwords or use banner ads.

You can use SEO, Facebook traffic, Twitter traffic, Forums traffic, YouTube traffic and article websites.

You can record a video and upload it on youtube. From my experience youtube is great traffic getting source. If you decide to make video be sure to optimize it around certain, preferably long tail keyword (put keyword in title, url and description). You can use bitly to track your clicks. Also a good tip is to create attention grabbing title and nice description about your video. Put your keywords in tags option.
You can outsource backlinks creation on fiverr, just to boost you video seo.
After that you can duplicate this process with another video.

Passive long-term free traffic? You need two things. Social (Stumble Upon, Reddit, Twitter, FB) and SEO. There's a lot to be said about SEO, but quality content with backlinks is what powers the engines. I wrote a very detailed thread explaining the process and a Q & A section just a few days ago so I won't drag it all back out here, the link is in my signature.

You don't give many details on what resources you have.

If you have money to spend, ppc is the way to go.

If you have time:

1) Blog commenting.

2) Article writing and submission to article directories.

3) Video creation and using tags from other popular videos.

Playing the Google game is a sure way to frustration, a lot of work for a trickle of traffic. If you really, really want traffic, pay for it: PPC.

Submit your website to relevant directories, and post on high PR forums with DoFollow link signatures.

Assuming you don't mean paid traffic, try a mixture of content marketing (to bring users on other sites back to yours) and some interesting, Google-friendly content curation posts (to bring in some natural search engine traffic).

Your answer really depends on what type of website you're setting up because the same methods won't work for all sites. It is also really dependent on your budget.

However, in general, if you are able to constantly create great content on your website and create some backlinks while you're at it, then you'll be golden

Well you could buy traffic for a cheap price or try and build SEO for long term - either way it is not traffic you should be interested in, but conversions!

If your plan for the website is long term, then SEO is the most consistent traffic source, from my point of view. Other sources can give you spikes, but not consistency. But this is from my experience.

Get backlinks and try to rank at google for targeted keywords!!

Write quality content, do guest posts, articles submissions and get all these links bookmarked. This way you'll get more exposure!

Working on SEO is better way to increase your traffic, for that you need good patience. As well as you have to make sure that you have selected good keywords with better search volume. (Hint : Use Google keyword tool, for this)

I see many of the replies being related to SEO. What I don't see is re-purposing the content you already have.

That can be done in a number of ways.

PDF Distribution channels.

When your content is re-purposed for syndication on document sharing sites, there's a post here, that explains how to socialize those docs, and increase your social media campaign.

Then there's transcribing the content into slideshows.

Putting it into audio and distributing through podcast channels.

Note that I'm no expert at increasing traffic, so those last 2 I've only read up on, I can't say how effective they are. What I did do for a client though was use the PDF distribution and that worked fairly fast and still brings extra hits.

Images as well, depending on your niche. What I often do is place images on the site, with the file name as the keyword phrase being targeted. It's surprising the amount of others with their own websites, who turn to Google images, for a picture to their post, take the image and sometimes place a link to my website, out of courtesy.

Social bookmarking still works too. The best one that I find useful is StumbleUpon. Reddit brings some traffic, but I see more coming from StumbleUpon.

You can have many types of traffic by many method, SEO is the easiest way to have traffic, but you need to have research your niche and create some useful article to your site, then SEO your site , onpage and offpage seo =D

You can try seo but it can be slow and take time. As for PPC, you can go for Bing PPC instead of google because google adwords is just too expensive to deal with.
