Newbie with a passion but little direction

Hey Everybody,

I'm really new to internet marketing or even believing making a living online was possible for that matter. I stumbled upon making money online a couple months ago soon after I graduated from college.

With a degree in Economics I realized the future it offered was a pretty sad and depressing one, where I'd literally have to be a slave in a suit for 10-12 hours a day until I retire.

So I read 4-hour work week and discovered a new way of life the internet can offer. I have a passion for fitness and have started my own blog and youtube page... currently working on an Ebook.

I'd really appreciate it if I got some guidance as to where to go from here... are there any online groups I should join that will benefit me? Also, are there any courses I should take to help me promote a website?

I'm really glad I found this forum randomly when I needed guidance the most. So glad I can see so much success in this forum from internet marketing, it is really motivating!

    Welcome.

    The first thing I would do is to test the water so to speak online.

    Find products that interest you and start promoting them.

    The one thing you need to realize from day one is that in order to make money from any niche, you need to somehow capture people's emails and names into a your list so that you can follow up with them.

    2nd, you need to educate yourself on how to drive target market traffic.

    Before you dive in without knowing too much, I would encourage you to get educated. The best way is to learn from other people who have done well online and can teach you the ropes.

    There is one book I recommend you read about internet marketing. It is called How I made my first million on the internet by Ewen Chia. This should get you on the right path.

    Welcome on board. First thing to do.... start learning. This forum has a wealth of knowledge & great people to help you!

    Whichever direction you choose to take, I would strongly suggest looking at ways to build your own list. It's the most effective way to ensure long-term success!

    Why is this "list" so important? the past couple months I got 310 subscribers on my youtube fitness page, should I convert these to my email list?

    I see both you guys have a website that requires an email to get any furthur... where can I learn to make this for my youtube page? Thanks again

      A list is important because you can reach out directly to your subscribers anytime you want. Your content is delivered directly to there inbox. They don't have to goto youtube to watch it. Also with email it's more long term... for example if something would happen to youtube, you would always have your email list

      If you're just starting out, I would sign up with an auto-responder service like Aweber. Then set up a blog where you can give away a free report in exchange for an email address.

      An email list is a definite step towards building a long-term business ASSET.

    Hey I am no different from you. The thing secret is to start with something and get it done. The learning curve might take for a while, depending on how wise you are in your decision making. Internet marketing is no different from any business off line so don't think of it too much!

    I agree with the Warriors.
    Continue building your list...& create a good relationship with them.
    And the only way to do that is...Traffic.
    Learn how to drive 'targeted' traffic to your website...
    & you will be making a living from your online venture.

    Make sure you research all the various online business models enough to know that you are choosing the right one. I see far too many people 2 years in that absolutely hate the work they are doing. Learn about what is involved on an ongoing basis for each business model before you jump into one..

    Another piece of advice is to stick with the 1 business model you choose and avoid getting spread too thin! Far too many people try to work 3 different projects at the same time and make no headway on any of them because they are just trying to keep their heads above water!

    It's good to start with what you are passionate, because it easy to motivate your self this way.


    since you have your own blog now you should bring some traffic to that blog. So you need to educate yourself about SEO. In this forum there are a lot of help about SEO.

    When you got traffic, it will be time to monetize your blog traffic, through affiliate, adsense...

    What's your situation in terms of time, money, commitment, etc.

    I think your direction should change depending on if you can invest money or not and what kind of hourly commitment you are able to make.

    Sounds like you've got a good start on things Yu, and clearly passionate and an action taker. That's half the battle. I presume, as you are college graduate level educated, that you are quite a mentally stimulated person. Therefore, I think one of the best ways you can learn is to find others who are in the Fitness niche online and connect with them, get to know others in your market, network with them, see what they are doing that you like and what's working, do similar things yourself. Learn the principles and tactics of marketing online, and start building an email list straight away.
