To increase traffic from 12k/day to 50k/day

Hi,
I've been doing SEO for a website but its not really working and I think wont work.
Website is in gags/fun images niche. No text.
Site once had 80k visitors per day but now its fluctuating between 10k and 11k .
Most of the traffic is coming from facebook and stumbleupon. Google/yahoo combined wont even account for 1% of total traffic.

My target is to reach 50k/day. Right now I'm stuck with what exactly to do after unsuccessful results from SEO in last 3 months.
I'm sure that I should work closely with social media to bring traffic, but just don't know what exactly to do.
To give direction to discussion, I'm thinking of more like creating more facebook pages, twitter account etc and run some contests to engage viewers. What do you think, it will work?

    Have you considered any forms of paid traffic... such as solo ads or PPC?

      I think that would cost to much to create a profitable and worthy ROI for him.

      I would have to say, go with social media, scale up whatever you're doing right now. If you say that is the #1 thing bringing in traffic.

      PPC/solo ads are not really profitable for websites making money with adsense.

      @CalinDan, yeah I also think so. Any suggestions how can I make it viral on facebook/twitter.

    Absolutely you must do social media at the moment and beside that you should do article marketing.article marketing is very much essential after penguin update.maximum number of traffic am getting from article directory.
