If affiliates promote my product, do I get the buyers on my list?

I've written an ebook that I'd like to submit to affiliate marketplace sites - so affiliates can sell the book and take maybe 50% of the cover price.

I haven't set up my list and autoresponders etc yet.

Anybody who buys the book, I want to add to my list and send them autoresponders.

I've never worked as an affiliate or as a producer of stuff for affiliates.

The way affiliate products are usually sold, do I, as the original creator of the ebook, get the buyers on my list?

Or if not, is there a way to ensure I do?

Well, it depends on how you set up your affiliate program. I've seen some where buyers have to first opt in to a list and are then redirected to the actual buy page. In this situation, depending on the affiliate system, you can pay the referrer per lead AND sale or per sale only.

The fact that they're sold through an affiliate actually isn't relevant to your question. You either do or don't get them on your list exactly the same as if you sold them yourself, without any affiliates.

You're perfectly entitled to add buyers to your list: they're your customers.

Exactly how you do it will depend on (a) where you're selling it, and (b) how you go about it.

It's ok to do it automatically, if their email address has been collected during the sale process (as it sometimes is).

And it's ok to do it "manually" (i.e. to make them opt in separately/additionally before giving them the product) BUT (and this is the important thing for you to know) it's not ok to sell them the product, have them pay, and only then tell them you need them to "opt in" as well in order to download the product. In other words, if it's a condition of sale that they "opt in", then you have to tell them that before they pay. (Especially if you're using PayPal to collect the money, because if you let customers pay before telling them they also need to opt in, and PayPal finds out, they'll close your account! I suggest you make the opt-in voluntary, that way you will have highly inclined and responsive list that you can promote similar offers to anytime and make money almost instantly.

There is no way you can ensure or guarantee people onto your list and it depends whether you want to focus on building a list of customers or focus on pre selling from the sales page.

Bear in mind that although pre-selling from the selling page with an opt in can be effective some affiliates are put off mainly because there have been cases of the vendor than promoting through their own affiliate link.

A good way is to get a list of buyers for free updates or something.

If your tunnel is set up to get people opt in to your list as soon as they purchased your product, you will certainly capture their email address. Building a buyers email list has far more potential then trying to to build a freebie seekers list.

I personally prefer to create a great product with bonuses and offer affiliates 100% commission. In return I will get the email address of each person who purchased my product. I´ve set my tunnel up so that every person who successfully purchased my product through PayPal gets redirected to an opt in download page, meaning the person needs to leave their email address to receive the product that they paid.

It does take a lot of effort to create a high quality product and find top affiliates but the quality list you build will be well worth it.

Yes, my buyers list made me money for years. 100% commision may seem scary but you can have a backend product if you want and offer 50% for that

Correct, the same applies at DigiResults.

You integrate services such as aweber / getresponse into the payment process.

Then on the thank you page create a quick video explaining that you will 3 emails, the receipt, log-in details to access the product, and lastly one from the autoresponder.

You can also get wordpress plugins / themes to do this. I think that optimizepress can do this, and what I'm going to be using is the fastmember plugin that I bought from the WSO section a few months back.

Ultimately you should be looking to find someone who has set up what you want to achieve and find out what they did / who they hired and pay to get the job done properly.

Absolutely yes. And like has been said, you do not want to make this a surprise. Just tell them up front that the download link is delivered by email, or that you are going to create their membership or offer a bonus for signing up.

It works great, very few people decide to not buy for that reason, and you wind up with a list of buyers. And if the first email you send them after you confirmation emails, contains their D/L link and a bonus ( a real bonus, not some junky product or a signup page for somebody else's product) you are going to have a higher stick rate and earn some new friends. :-)

I agree with Alexa all the way as I have seen such practices used before when making a Purchase. In your situation, it may be easier to find a payment processor that has the feature to add buyers automatically your list during the sales process.

Yeah that's the best way I think.
And remember that its important to know your buyers. in Future you can use them as potential buyers.

You will get the buyers if you have an optin page before, between or after your product sale. I have an optin page when the customer has paid for the product and comes before the customer accesses the download page. A good idea will be to have an optin page before the download page and ask the customer to optin to receive future updates on the product so it does not sound to pushy.
