The Most IMPORTANT Fact About List Building & Solo Ads...

... Getting the person who has opted-in to use their main email address, not their "freebie email address".

If they don't put their main email in in the first place, there's no relationship building, there's no opening of emails, there's no clicking-through, there's no nothing.

Agree or disagree?

This is only an issue in Internet Marketing niche, and similar niches where people are shoved freebies down their throats...

But yeah, I agree with the statement...

I agree that is the most important thing which is why all my for fields say leave your best/primary email here.
But let's also not overlook the value of multivariate testing your ...well everything. Landing page layout, headlines, form field (number of fields) how users reach conversion goals, offer on redirect after sign-up, buttons...paths to offer...oto's everything.

Everything is a test and the goal is to increase conversion actions.

Another thing that gets overlooked way to often is a reassuring confirmation email...this can set the tone of the relationship one of my favorite things to do is to encourage that my list member set up a filter for my email.

I email a lot and I don't want to clutter their inbox or fight for attention, so I find that having a filter just for me and my emails lets me keep emailing and helps me keep open rates high because I don't get lost in the noise.

    This isn't a fact

    It's an obstacle.

This is also unavoidable. When I see people put in obvious freebie emails on my list, I remove them from my list. I saw an email yesterday that was "myfreewsoemail@yahoo.com" I was partly disgusted, but I just removed the email address from my list and went on about my day.

it is true from an individual subscriber's point of view, but statistically speaking, list building and solo ads still "work", since some portion do use an email address they open. All you need to make list building & solo ads work is this portion!

I was thinking about that this evening. Ultimately, if this person is going to use a freebie address, chances are they were never a buyer in the first place and were not going to be open to building a relationship.

Depends...I've had some people to opt in with real email. And then after getting the free gift, mark my newsletter as spam, so all my emails go junk folder. There goes great relationships.

That's strange. If I were them I'd just unsubscribe instead of marking it as spam.

Well, I disagree with asking for a "main" email address on the opt-in page. To me, that just sounds patronizing.

Far better to encourage would-be subscribers to want to sign up. That usually means starting the relationship before the opt-in and not totally relying on the bribe of a freebie.

If subscribers want to hear from you, they'll give you a valid email.

    Hello,

That's true that if a subscriber don't use his main email. That means he will never open the emails that you will be sending.

It is sad but that is a fact

Just part of the game. You will still get sales from folks who input their real/main email. I wouldn't stress too much of the free addresses.

Not necessarily. I work in sales and a lot of the time, even when an individual is expecting to hear from my company, they'll only provide a home phone number. Not their cell phone. Not because they don't want to hear from us... not because they aren't expecting a call... but because of security issues. A lot of people aren't comfortable providing their cell phone number and main email address. Even if they have a previous relationship with the person/company/etc.

Each freebie seeker email on the list is costing us money. That's why I always use the words "primary email" in the opt in form so that more people will be using their primary email when subscribing. I'm not sure how much that would help but I just did as what my mentor said.
