Newbie with a question

Hi all.
I have a proprietary physical product that I have developed that I am taking to market. (not my first...and won't be my last)
I'm an old school bricks and mortar guy that has not done any online marketing and selling to the end consumer. (Have been primarily in the distribution business.)
If anyone cares to steer me to some previous threads that do a good job covering the basics, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and I apologize for the basic nature of my request.
Cheers.

  • Can you be more specific in what you are looking for.

The world of online marketing is so incredibly vast it is hard to create an all in one beginners guide.

What are you focusing on now?
Do you have a site, are you doing it yourself?
Do you have a shopping cart or merchant account?
    Do you have a list?
    Are you selling on amazon?

Go ahead and fire off some questions and and I am sure some nice people will help you find some direction..

    Good luck

    • Thanks Kevin
Patent protection/product development/tooling is all done.....manufacture ready. Website is up and operational...ready to fill the carts.
As I said, I am a bricks and motar guy. What I am looking for is recommended vehicles and conduits to the end consumer to create awareness, drive traffic and sales. Product is a winner...super cool.
      Appreciate the response.

  • If you're selling a physical product, I would possibly look into using Shopify as a platform. Use a theme where you can showcase your product (I'm assuming it's only one)

Then get some hype around it! And def use Google's Shopping Feed

I don't think you need anyone's help dude. Just use the search button of this awesome forum. you will get the detail information about online marketing for sure.
  • Just do a simple search, and type in the keywords that you want to understand and learn about.
  • I started with a proprietary product as well.

If your site is up and ready, you some quality backlinks to drive some traffic. The best method I used was having a blog incorporated with the website and adding lots of keyword rich content associated with the product.

If you don't have a Facebook page up yet, I would get that going as well. I found the proprietary market to be one that you definitely want to build some trust and rapport with your audience. If you have had the brick and mortar going you should have no problem providing them with quality content and feedback. That will be invaluable for them.

Hope this helps. Best of luck!
  • I'm on my phone and can't really link to any threads. But maybe some others can or you can use Google.

I would say a good place to start would be keyword and market research. Find any forums that might contain your target audience start building relationships there, and softly promote there.

Maybe build a blog with related articles that could serve as a traffic source.

There are also always Google ads and other ad networks that you can look into.

    Just some ideas

Maybe if you could link to the Site some more experience members can help pinpoint the best avenue

  • All good info so far, thanks people.
Affiliate sales? As this is a physical product I don't have the super long margins to give away 40-50 point commissions. Any suggestions here?
    Thanks.
  • Go to some sites offering free or paid traffic and get some visitors to your site. Maybe get someone on fiver to do backlinks to your main site. PM me if you have more questions or want to know some good traffic sites. I know some, but when I post links in public sometimes it deletes my post.

    • I would like to PM you but as a newbie I can't until I have 50 posts or more!!!
Being a newbie has it's limitations ya know, LOL.
If you could Pm to me your email we can have a conversation that way.
      Cheers
