    No,

Not that many really make money out of them no more.

I don't think they charge for affiliate sign ups, They charge you if you register as seller and use their payment processing system. If you are looking for affiliate markets, then you can checkout plimus and shareasale also. They are also good in fact product quality is better.

Strictly speaking, the $50 isn't a "signing up fee": it's actually a (first) product activation-fee, for vendors. Opening accounts is free.

There's nowhere else that has anything like the affiliate numbers or turnover of ClickBank. ClickBank has been established for longer than Google, has paid out well over $2 Billion to vendors and affiliates, and is continuing to grow steadily.

Of course, it doesn't follow from any of that, that your product will necessarily attract many affiliates just by being listed there, but that's also potentially true anywhere else, too. The sales page will still be on your own site, after all, not on ClickBank's, and wherever you actually sell the product, you still have to generate your own retail customers and affiliates, really.

The big potential attractions of ClickBank include ...

      (i) Many affiliates look there
(ii) Affiliates trust ClickBank's system because if we use that, we're not dependent on the vendor for payment, and not dependent on PayPal either (for pro-affiliates - i.e. the ones you really want?! - this can be a huge factor)
(iii) You effectively get the bookkeeping done for you, by ClickBank
(iv) Customers can pay by PayPal without the vendor needing to use his own PayPal account to collect that money from ClickBank (also potentially very significant)
      (v) It's very long established and has a reputation for prompt and reliable payments

Some of those factors also apply to some other affiliate networks, it's true.

Clickbank's $50 activation fee is a legit option if your product doesn't suck!

Like Alexa said (she answered the question very thoroughly), they move an impressive quantity of product, and have a heavy number of affiliates looking to promote your stuff.

The days of offering lame products are over though. (If those ever existed)

And a PS: You don't need to pay $50 to become an affiliate (not sure if you made that distinction), only if you intend on offering your own product.

If you have to pay $50.00 to sign up to ClickBank.. you might want to make sure your typing the URL address correctly.

You only have to pay if you submit a product and it gets approved.

You know, I am getting to hate clickbank, so I am switching over to click2sell, they seem to be better and I know they are cheaper. Not as many affiliates.

Now when jvzoo and warriorplus get more payment processors I may switch to one of them. I only use them for certain things.

I think jvzoo will come out with other payment processors first though. I can still use them for anything but I am getting to hate paypal. Did a wso and locked up four times before I just closed it, and this is a paypal account I had for over 10 years.

If you don't think your product is capable of generating $50 total, what does that say about the product? I'm a big fan of Clickbank. I have a product on there generating about 1 sale per day at $27 and I do absolutely no promotion with it - none - and it has been listed for around a year. It has brought in something like ~280 sales. Worth it? I'd say so considering everything is automated except answering a couple questions here and there, both pre and post-purchase. Go for it... unless the product you wouldn't even buy yourself.
