can you succeed in IM without any technical knowledge

Hello Warriors,
I hope I am posting this in the right section as this is the first time I have EVER posted on any Forum.

I have recently been made redundant from my job as a customer services representative in a call centre. I have however got into a temporary position, delivering/collecting cars for a number of dealers nearby. its not brilliant but it keep the food on the table.

OK!! Rant over - Lets talt about IM

It must be a blessing in disguise that I lose my 9-5 job and at the same time I am looking into internet marketing and affilliate marketing in particular. The fact that I have found this community is an even bigger bonus, as everyone seems to get along and alot of wisdom seems to be shared here.

Just like many other newbies I too have some questions, and would appreciate it if I can be pointed in the right diection.

My first question as is related to the title is:
can I succeed in affilliate marketing without having technical knowledge? I know I can learn to use wordpress and the various programs to create a website. However I am tempted to hire or buy a ready made site just so I can get my foot through the door.

My early reading and and many of the warriors suggest taking action rather than to try and perfect something that doesnt exist. Im actually wanting to get a readymade website and use a SEO person/team from the warrior forum to get that push. i in the mean time can read up and learn what is going on.

I also need to understand how exactly I will monetise my site.

Id like to apologise for my lack of knowledge and understanding on the topic, but it is very early days and I have alot to learn.
Can someone also kindly reccomend someone who can build a site for me and also who can do the SEO for me.

Finally if I am going all the wrong way about this please say so and point me in the right direction.

Many Thanks
#knowledge #succeed #technical

Honestly, setting up a wordpress site with a free theme is a very simple process and there are free videos all of the place on this exact topic. It would save you a bit of money.

If you are intent on purchasing your first site, you can get some very well designed sites on WF.

As for monetising, there are A LOT of different ways to go about this and it can be rather site specific. Using Google Adsense is a very popular way.

I would suggest as your first site, finding a subject that you are actually interested and creating a site around that. That way you will enjoy creating content for the site, Google loves sites which have lots of new content so it will help your SEO efforts. Stick some adsense ads on the site and all of a sudden you are earning some money. You can then venture further into the vast world of IM from there.

The fact that you are willing to take action right off the bat is great. It really is the first step! I got into IM myself after leaving my job, one of the best moves I've ever made!

Feel free to drop me a pm, I will gladly help you get your first site up and running. (I am allergic to SEO though :p)

Is it because of SEO being a monotonous kind of task thats why you said you are allergic on it or is there any other reason that we should be aware of.

I agree with BZA, better to learn the basic's and save your money. Youtube.com is a great place to start and learn how to install a wordpress blog, how to get a domain name, and then check out the videos on doing seo to your site.
    Hope this helps.

It's not longer about technical skill, it's about soft skill (selling skill) and writing skill. Everything else, you can outsource.

Ever notice that people who spend money on WSO, memberships and courses, are always complaining about being broke and not making any money ?

They should have bought ASSETS instead.

can i outsource the writing aswell?

I am not in the habbit yet, i tried a course a couple of years ago whice required alot of articles to be posted on sites like ezine etc. I wrote one article and went brain dead.
I believe there is software that can spin articles and create several out of one original piece.

Most IM is very accessible IMO. I'd say you should invest in a course to pick up any technical knowledge but I'm sure you can get by for free. If you know how to use a word processor you'll be good to go

My answer to your question: Absolutely! When I first started, all I did was answer questions on an opt-in community email list. I made $3000 my first month in IM. And that is in 2000. No website. My only investment was an internet connection and of course a computer.

    Hello,
Try going to weebly.com to get your site. You can do it yourself very easily. It's one of the simplest website platforms. or better yet. I'm not sure where you live, but some states offer free websites for businesses. you get the domain and hosting for a year. do a search on "free web sites" or "free web hosting" and wherever you are from. I know a few states in the US do it.

im in the UK, i know there were several schemes like this a few years ago, i know some local users thats cashed in on these. They would charge thousands for basic sites because they knew the money was coming from the various agencies.

Technical skills are not vital here, but you need to know some basics, like how to set up a website, or wordpress. Or you need to know how to outsource everything.

Exactly. Outsourcing is key. Try Philippines. You can get a VPA there for as low as $100/month. Quality is only as good as the TRAINING you give your VA.

I was browsing the forum yesterday icoachu, when i learnt that all the skill required is actually on offer. Judging by some of the time zone i believe they were in the far east.

Technical skills are a hinderance to many people as they think they need to understand how everything works - it's not necessary.

All you need to know is - what your business is. The rest you can get others to do or help you with.

Making a website is the easy bit.

    nothing to see here.

I agree with you Andyhenry, this is why i want to get going and then understand 'knowhow' in due course. i suppose it is handy to know as its a good tool to advance.

You don't need to know programming or anything, just outsource it on fiverr (my gigs page). Also, setting up a wordpress site is very easy.

You will be surprised at how much you can accomplish with a wysiwyg editor. Honestly . over time I have learned a lot. Realizing the skills needed to make it online and really concentrating on learning them will pay off in the end.

I did all of this before word press. With WP, anyone can build a great looking site with very little tech skills needed. Just remember. A site that marketers on here will tear apart can and will still make money on the open market. It is a lot more about content than pretty sites.

Three years ago, I had absolutely no technical knowledge whatsoever.
While it was difficult to start, it was not impossible and today, I am absolutely amazed by the amount of technical know-how that I have learned, without making a deliberate effort to learn.

Just get started and enjoy the process and you'll be fine.

So cheap, that I honestly fear for the US in the next coming decades.

I think it is not impossible. I think that one would need to know someone with at least some technical knowledge... or else just be a quick learner.

I just want to comment on the subject. Yes YOU can succeed.

Not so long ago i was exactly like you until i met some experienced Internet Marketers who have made tons of cash in online business looks pretty much gray for beginners but it does happen and a lot of them are genuine. They have something in common when it comes down to making $$ online.

This is the basic thing you need to focus on and not into technical knowledge but not taking a discount on learning the basics, When it comes to making the $$ or achieving success online, it all boils down to this: Traffic + Conversions = Sales focus more on ways you can drive visitors to your website.

The only technical knowledge I've learned so far is setting up domain, hosting, auto responder and learning how to use WordPress. All of this are easy tasks. The one and only thing you should be worrying is driving traffic to your website.

Technical skills are pretty much a prerequisite in the current internet landscape if you are looking for this to become a career. Those who know nothing except how to work a control panel tend to ride brief waves of opportunity.

    Absolute minimum:
    HTML, CSS, Photoshop

    Recommended:
    XML, PHP/MySQL, Javascript

    Optional, for now:
A more advanced language such as Perl, C++, Java, Python....

I don't recommend the intense study of web development from day 1 though. Get something online ASAP using a CMS such as WordPress. There are 100+ alternatives, but community help is moreso readily available for WP since so many use it. When you find yourself wanting to modify a template's design or needing plugins, then it's time to bite the bullet and learn how to do this stuff yourself.

"a fool and his money are soon parted."

not calling you a fool, but you need to know some basic tech skills in this game...even if you outsource almost everything, you will need to instruct your VA's on what you want and how you want it. If you have no tech skills then that will be harder to do and you may find yourself burning your budget right quick.

    You could sub contract programming jobs and keep the difference as a middle man, or even flip domains with a simple WP know-how. There are ways to make money with limited tech skills, but you're going to have to bite the bullet sometime. {i would wager}
