.com and .biz of same domain - Question & your recommendations.

INTERNET MARKETING

Background:

A client owns the .biz and the .com for a domain.

The .com is the newer domain and is the site that the client wants build up.

The .biz is older domain and is redirected to the .com.

A Google search list the .com domain in first position. Great.

The same Google search list the .biz/locations url in the second position.

The question:

The client wants the .biz to not show up in a Google (or any) search. How to make that happen?

Your recommendations:

Are there options or opportunities that the .biz can play a role in?

Input from people with experience would be greatly appreciated.

You can add a robots.txt file to the unwanted domain, then it should over time fade from the search result.

Out of courousity though I have to ask .. why would your client want to do this? The .biz is indexed .. it points to his content .. and it likely has at least 'some' backlinks / ranking. Why remove it? I doubt duplicate content is an issue.

Thanks for your input.

The .biz is 301 redirected to the .com.

To your second point; that's what I'm looking for input on. I have thought about the backlink value but also want to see if there might be some other recommendations.

If you have 301 redirects for all .biz pages to the .com, then the .biz will eventually disappear from the SERPs.

If you want to speed up the process with Google, you can submit a "change of address" in Google Webmaster Tools.
