What's In A (Domain) Name? Say $13 million!?

Many Internet marketers fail to properly optimise their domain name to match their market. Instead they choose to focus on keywords in their advertising campaigns in order to attract traffic. Get the domain name right and you often end up having a distinct edge over the competition. Online real estate can be big business - just take a look at the following list of domain name sale prices! - ($US)

Sex.com $13,000,000
Fund.com $ 9,999,950
Business.com $ 7,500,000
Israel.com $ 5,880,000
Casino.com $ 5,500,000
Slots.com $ 5,500,000
Toys.com $ 5,500,000
AsSeenOnTV.com $ 5,100,000
Korea.com $5,000,000
Property.com $5,000,000
Clothes.com $4,900,000
WorldWideWeb.com $3,500,000

Even Poker.org picked up a cool $1 million! Choose wisely fellow marketers.

Thanks Adie but if I did that I'm sure I would find absolutely almost everything already covered. So why start a thread at all really? It could be a useful source of traffic at some point. etc.
I'll try hard to be as meek as a mouse so that I won't challenge your expert status. Best to you!

OP, I think the point people are trying to get across to you is . . . post something interesting and constructive, or if you can't then just hover about the forum in a viewing capacity . . . and learn!

Domains like the one's you mentioned are a TOTAL exception rather than the rule. Informing people about the resale value of them tells us nothing. We know that already.

Sometimes it's hard as a new member to rein in your trigger happy 'new thread' fingers, but always remember that a single isolated thread where you offer value or contribute to a great debate or discussion is worth 50 or so mediocre threads which simply receive a few derisory post replies and then fade into oblivion. It does nothing for your credibility either.

            Just a thought.

Usually now its too late to focus keywords on .com domain name because the lots of keywords been taken . Its time to get nice keywords domain with .net extension , .co and other country level domain name extension which the value is growing as well.

    That's amazing information!

I found the same word-for-word listing on page 110 of a book called "Get Rich click" by Marc Ostrofsky (yeah, the "Clickbank" guy).

When people ask me what I would do differently, I always say this...

Go back in time with my current knowledge and buy every domain I can think of that has a generic name, like pets, apartments, shoes, etc..

But to those who think this idea is dead, that's just wrong I feel.

There are new ideas, products and even markets emerging all the time. Because if I could go back in time and do this, what would I initially be doing? I would be trying to place my mind in the future. Well we can do that now.

And that's what Marc Ostrofsky did. And even though Get Rich Click wasn't exactly advanced knowledge, it's definitely a great book and full of some cool ideas, or at least to get you fired up.
