1Shopping Cart and massive traffic

Greetings -- not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but my business partner and I are going to be appearing on "Shark Tank" next week and we've been told to anticipate huge amounts of traffic and sales. I'm wondering if our 1shopping cart account will be able to handle the volume.

Fearing having it crash and losing out on a lot of money. Any input?

What type of hosting are you using now, shared, vps, dedicated? Either way I would notify your hosting company and let them know ahead of time.

If you are on a shared server you will most likely have issues with entry processes and sql connections and ram.

It sounds like you have enough time, your host should be able to get you prepared for the extra traffic/resource usage.

Its definitely going to depend on the hosting that you're using. Shared hosting probably wont cut it. If you're on a VPS or dedicated you will be fine. It's tough to quantify huge amounts of traffic so its tough to say what you will need. I guess if I were you I'd be sure to overestimate rather than underestimate.

I'm migrating to a dedicated hosting setup, so the traffic should be manageable on the site itself, but my fear is that our cart (1shoppingcart) won't be able to handle the sales volume. Very nervous...

The shopping cart should be able to handle the spike, but definitely talk to them.

I'd make sure your actual website is ready as well. More people will hit your site than the shopping cart, they have to come to the site first.

So make sure the website is ready as well, talk to your host.

Also, if you don't have one - you absolutely must have an opt-in form and good offer there to capture emails. You know you are going to have a massive amount of traffic, and you need to utilize every aspect of that.

Immediate sales from the exposure is good, getting a massive increase in your email list is even better! As with the cart and website, make sure the email list will also be able to handle the incoming requests.

Best of luck, and have a great time on the show!

Let 1shoppingcart know before you do so. They will think you're doing something illegal if you just show up one day and have 5,000 orders in your merchant account.

Thanks everyone for the input! I upgraded my hosting package to a managed, dedicated server so we should be able to handle all the traffic. Also got in touch with the merchant services people so they don't flag my account for fraud when (hopefully) a rush of orders comes in.

      Thanks again!

One shopping cart should be ok. I have personally run days of 5 figure number of sales and I personally know a guy very well who has run a few 6 figure number of order days. that's order numbers not dollar volume.

Of course anything can happen, but they are used to big traffic spikes since they are in the email marketing business as well.

Congrats on the shark tank invite. I love that show.

I wouldn't be too worried about the shopping cart since they're typically programmed to handle huge product launches. If anything, perhaps you should contact their service to give them a heads up on the probability of a potential traffic spike. They're usually more than happy to work with you.

Looking forward to seeing you on Shark Tank by the way. I happen to love that show.
