Aweber -- Delay the first autoresponder message...

Hoping someone can help me.

I've only just woken up so I may be missing something very obvious here but so far it has me stumped.

I have been using Aweber for years but haven't (until now) had the need to delay the very first autoresponder email in a series. I am aware you can set delays for all other emails but I can't for the life of me see any option to delay the actual first email that gets sent out to subscribers.

Don't tell me they have left out this option?

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

As far as I know, you can't delay it.

I'll be interested in hearing from anyone else, if this is possible.

The first one is immediate. As soon as they are signed up (confirmed or simple opt-in), that message goes out. You just need to write it so that it gets them to look forward to the next one.

      Yeah, I thought as much.

The issue I am having is with two separate list.

They sign up to list #1 where I then send them straight to another page to register a free members account for something. Those who do not register for the free account right away will get some automated followup emails reminding them to do so.

When they signup for their free members account they are automatically added to list #2 and removed from list #1.

That's all fine but the issue I am having is when the majority of people signup to list #1 and then create their free members account right away and are thus added to list#2, they still get that first email from list #1 reminding them to create their free account -- which is now redundant because they already have.

      If that makes sense.

    yep, Paul is spot on.

with aweber, the confirmation email and the first email of the series are sent basically immediately with no way to delay either.

yes, i think your reminder email on list 1 needs to be bumped down to message 2 and instead offer some other small freebie or something in message 1 of list 1 that is immediately sent.

that way the people who signup to list 2 (almost immediately) and are removed from list 1 and never see anything but some little freebie from list 1 message 1 that is sent immediately.

Yes this is a good idea. Thank them for signing up and give them an additional bonus that you have not mentioned before. This always makes people feel appreciated.

    David,

Yeah, I had thought about doing something like that and it's probably the best option.

    Thanks for your suggestion!

Will I had the same problem not too long back. I couldn't believe you couldn't set a delay on the first message.

I contacted Aweber support and their response was, "No, you can't do that, sorry".

      Thanks for that John!

Yeah, there seems to be a few things they don't do that I would like.

Something else I have wanted for a while is the ability to have different followup messages for different segments.

I wish we could set rules to flush dead leads, too.

Get Response lets you set the first email.

I would suggest a thank you for signing up email .. almost as if they had confirmed.

Yeah, you can not delay that message. As soon as someone opts in, the email is automatically sent out to them right away.

Why not just delete the first message and send a broadcast anytime you feel like it?

Another option on wording the first email would be some kind of "blame the computer" message:

I know you've probably already signed up but my computer is sometimes slow to catch on...

So if you've signed up, please accept my thanks...

... and then carry on from there.
