In 3 short sentences, say what you have learned in IM so far - the most profound ones.

Mine are:
  • Niches are needs, Not groups of people.
  • Find the need and pain, solve it.
  • Money is in the buyer's list.

  • leverage your skills
    build a list
the ugliest websites often make the most money (oddly enough)
  • 1) Learn SEO- Both On-Page and Off-Page

    2) Cultivate A Buyers List

    3) Don't Try To Re-Invent The Wheel

    • Mum, is that you?
      • [ 3 ] Thanks
  • Just one - Pick something (topic, niche) you're genuinely interested in and passionate about. It won't seem like work. The rest will follow.
  • - Most people are lying sacks of crap and don't care
    - Honour and integrity don't mean anything to anyone anymore
    - There is no such thing as loyalty or commitment in this industry

It is, of course, entirely up to you whether you want to beat them or join them.
    • [ 5 ] Thanks

    • I disagree CD. That's a total generalisation because most of the people that I have dealt with here have been the exact opposite of what you described above.

I recently had an incident where I was in a JV with someone and they got greedy and thought they could make more money without me. So be it!

But I am not going allow it to poison my mind and let it fester for months and months. It's done. I will never do business with them again and I will continue to make a success of my own business.

Let it go and do something SPECTACULAR now!!!

      Di

    • I agree with you. "Cheating" is no longer seen as a big problem because of the mindset - 'everyone is doing it'.

This is a good read on the topic: Winners Never Cheat: Even in Difficult Times,New and Expanded Edition: Jon M. Huntsman,Glenn Beck: 9780137009039: Amazon.com: Books (non aff)
  • Never assume anything, take actions
Try to help others (any niche), not to make money (money will follow)
Never be afriad of experimenting.. you might find something every unique never done before.
  • Don't re-invent the wheel
    Put yourself "out there"
Better to sell your own stuff

    1. You're responsible for your own business.
    2. The U.S. Government taxes this stuff.
    3. Nobody does anything with the lessons I learned.

    • 1- Research inside your niche, not on the Internet/in books and you'll be able to bring new stuff to the table.

2 - Work on conversions before you dream of unlimited traffic.

3 - Make sure your content let's people take action and see results.
  • 1. Don't start off as an affiliate.
    2. Concentrate on [non-MMO] copy above all else.
    3. There will always be MMO buyer's market if all else fails :p
  • 1. Find an evergreen market to promote, e.g.: make money online, weight loss, etc

    2. Build an effective sales funnel (squeeze page, special one-time offer, high-quality affiliate products and follow up emails)

    3. Drive traffic to your website
  • 1. Don't believe most of the claims on forums like this.
    2. Read, learn, test.
    3. Do.
  • I would have two to add:
    1. Never give up on your sites, even if you are not getting sales yet, or even after a longer time of period (for somebody it takes even a year to get a first sale, if I remember correctly for me those were more than 6 months to get the first sale);
    2. Do not put all eggs in one basket (by that I mean not only to put everything on one site, but even on one affiliate network, it always is safer if you have more sources of income especially if you already have quit your day job)
  • 1. Fast cash on fiverr
    2. Outsource to save more time
    3. Passive income with list building and autoblog
  • 1. Working harder leads to working smarter
    2. Most people learn 95% of the time, and learn 5% of the time. Flip that around.
    3. Relationships > technical, copywriting, traffic, ANYTHING.
    • [1] reply
    • So you're saying instead of learning 95% of the time and learning 5% of the time, we should in fact be learning 95% of the time and learning the other 5%? lol, sorry but I couldn't resist.
  • Attitude is everything
    Focus on building your list
Get 90% of your traffic from affiliates
  • 1. Always work as hard as you need to be the best at what you do.
    2. Always overdeliver.
    3. Be adaptable.
  • Ditto, ditto!

    Here's mine:

    1) Focus on finding PEOPLE with specific needs, NOT driving traffic
    2) Once you find the people, meet their needs
    3) On the optimization side of things: focus on conversion, long term relationships so people buy again and again, then once the backend is in place, focus on scaling the business by finding MORE sources of the same people who have the NEED.
  • - Learn the fundamentals of salesmanship. Everything else is temporary and relevant only in the current landscape.
    - The easiest and most effortless way to sell is to find what people want and show them how to get it.
    - People want experiences, not your product.

These lessons aren't exclusive to internet marketing, but I learnt them through internet marketing, as it was the medium through which I first got exposed to and stimulated to learn sales and marketing.

I've always been interested in learning the "permanent" stuff that I can carry with me even if I woke up in the middle of the street one day because a tornado wrecked my whole town while I was sleeping and took my house with it (a very deep sleep), or was teleported back 500 years. I've never been deeply interested in areas such as SEO which is never in my hands and non transferable.
  • 1. 99% of what you read on this forum is BS
    2. The other 1% is funny
    3. Make that 99.5% and 0.5%
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Build more BUY buttons.

Build more links to your BUY buttons.

    Rinse and Repeat.
    • [ 5 ] Thanks
  • The single most valuable lesson I've learned is TAKE ACTION.
    • [1] reply

    • But, what if someone is taking the wrong action?

If so, they might go broke instead of making money...

If someone needs to get to the bottom of the mountain, and they hear, TAKE ACTION... If they would consider ANY ACTION to be useful, they might end up a blood spatter at the bottom of the mountain... :p
      • [1] reply
  • -try to read/learn as much as possible before you do.
-stay focused on one thing and don't move on until you master it.
-learn to adjust your gameplan as you progress because you didn't know it all when you first set your gameplan.

  • 1. Pay attention to what other people are doing, not what they are telling you to do

    2. Test and track everything

    3. Never give up
  • - Stay away from the "gurus"
    - Making money online takes a lot more time and effort than everyone claims

  • 1. Act - action is critical above almost all else
    2. Find a passion that also fills a need based niche
    3. Don't get sidetracked with "research" - easiest way to get off track and never get any real work done

    • dont hate me for this.

  • 1. Think for yourself. If you always think others are smarter than you or have secrets you need to know then you will always be right. That doesn't mean ignore advice from reputable sources. But it does mean that you should process any and all information that you absorbed for yourself rather than blindly thinking what you read is absolute truth...it rarely is...that includes this post.

    2. Never, ever spend one penny with any "expert" who only operates in the IM niche. If they have not used their "secrets" successfully in other niches then don't give them a wooden nickle. If you find an marketing expert that makes the majority of their income selling IM products, not always, but the vast majority of the time you have found a person who either knowingly or unknowingly is leading people astray (while they make money of course). The majority of the time these same folks would starve to death marketing for a living if you told them they couldn't be in the IM niche any longer.

    3. Do more. Fail faster. you will learn faster and get smart real quick that way. Otherwise you will just be dreaming about the perfect system or scenario this time next year.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • -Merge your passion with following the money.
-Find where the pain is where people REALLY are looking for help.
-Practice and persist and PUT IN THE HOURS, FIND A GOOD MENTOR and you will succeed.

    Hope that helps!

    -Brody

  • Thanks for all the tips everyone, they are great. Keep them coming.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • *Don't tell everything you know
    *Make a ton of money

  • 1. If you put into practice what you learn in the first month
you'll be more successful than chasing after new ideas for
the rest of your IM life.

    2. If you build it they won't come.

    3. Success comes in groups. Make sure you are in the right one.

    -Ray Edwards
  • What I have learnt so far, for me.

    1. It's a numbers game. Like anything in life... the more times you do it, and keep going then the more likely something will hit.
Ditto David Keith "3. Do more. Fail faster. you will learn faster and get smart real quick that way. Otherwise you will just be dreaming about the perfect system or scenario this time next year."

    2. Don't put too much emotion into a project. It doesn't need to be the best or a 1 hit wonder (which is hard to do). Just cast it out fast, see what happens then act further or disregard & on to the next one without even thinking about that last project. Do this as many times as you can (kind of repeated first point here but that's how strongly I believe in this)

    3. Network with real people. (Not like the people arguing in this post but in a friendly way )
  • 1) "The Good".....keep doing what works.

    2) "The Bad"...... never too late to learn.

    3) " And the downright Ugly"......one to avoid.
  • 1) Drive targeted traffic
    2) Build a buyers list
    3) Rinse and repeat
  • 1. Your income is based on the value you provide
    2. Following one proven MMO method consistently will pay off
    3. Build a list and help solve your subscribers' problems
  • 3 short sentences, huh? Profound Internet marketing lesson is found on the back of your shampoo bottle - lather, rinse, repeat. Lather up your readers with great copy, rinse them through an opt-in form, then repeat.
  • At some point a business may involve joint ventures. When it comes to Joint Ventures avoid partners that do not know what they are doing. Make sure the partners actually have their ducks in a row instead of assuming it. This would avoid waste at all levels.

    Jeffery 100% :-)
  • - The key is proper direction
    - failure is not a bad thing (it shows effort)

    1. Be a master of all skills in your business, and, do it all yourself so you depend on noone.
    2. Outsource
3.Strategic Partnerships (including advertising i.e. ppc, ppv, solo ads, etc..., use other peoples:, skillset, relationships, client list, mangament skills, etc, and, you may find yourself on the beach)

Take your pick with any of those three and you'll be a success.
  • 1. Outsourcing is the only way to stop wasting your time
    2. Quality content is the king, the emperor, and the joker
    3. Stop believe everything in IM forum

    • The most important thing that I have learned is transparency. To me, what that means is be you. Surprisingly, people pick up that you are copying someone else. "Carbon Copy Marketers" won't last very long.
  • 1. You will NEVER get to the point where you can throw your hands up and say "I've made it!"

    2. You MUST enjoy IM - or the process/journey - just because you CAN make money online doesn't mean it is for you!

    3. Know your strengths and be honest about your weaknesses - outsource the work where your weaknesses are someone else's strengths.

    4. Don't be afraid to fail - learn to embrace it! People will only take note of your successes!
  • If you work hard you WILL make money.
Making money online isn't usually this 'easy money making' scheme that you think it's going to be.
  • 1. Make your Passion your Profession
    2. Start Today
    3. Countless learning and application
  • - shit rolls downhill
    - don't lick your fingers
    - payday is Friday

    oops, that's plumbing
  • 1) The idea isn't as important as the execution.
    2) Fail as quickly as possible - take your idea and execute it on the smallest feasible scale to get your first customer
    3) Marketing is everything - be unique and find one small thing you can do better than anyone else rather than trying to being everything to everyone.

      2) Join whatever business model that is working for them

  • -Don't buy all the "shiny objects" that promises quick success, even if it says its a blueprint
-You'll never learn enough to feel "ready" to finally take actionable steps. You just have to DO IT and revise your failures. Rinse and repeat.
-Have your mind constantly observing needs that you can fulfill in the IM realm - that's how you find your niche
  • Don't be afraid to ask

Don't try to do everything yourself

Focus on fewer projects, taking them all the way through to completion.

  • 1. Always be on the lookout for problems-inefficiencies, profit opportunities, incongruities.
