I want to take a stab at the only thing you need to succeed...

There's been a few posts out over the last few days that I thought were wrong. Not that they weren't great advice, but I think it's a bit silly to tell someone there's only one thing they need to know.

Offer something someone wants? Yeah sure, but what about getting traffic and converting it.

Just take action? Yeah sure, but not in a niche that won't make you money and wasting time on the wrong action.

So I want to say what I think is the ONLY thing you need to succeed in IM (this is just blogging)...

SOLID FOUNDATION

By that I mean:

  • Wordpress site set up (you can use free until you make money then upgrade)
  • Some good articles
  • An opt-in freebie
  • A good domain name
  • An auto-responder sequence
  • A niche where people are already making money
  • An offer to promote
  • Evergreen content
  • A different angle from the top players

After you have these you can start getting traffic and testing conversions. You can pivot and change up anything you want, but you have the SOLID FOUNDATION on which everything can be built.

It's all about testing and changing things to see what works.

It's the same model I used and finally started making money in. If I had just kept throwing s**t against the wall in a handful of websites I wouldn't have been any further along.

Anyway, just my opinion. Hope it helps someone like it's helped me.

Good solid foundation. I would add one thing: consistently adding unique, valuable material (whether it's articles, guest blogs, reviews, whatever it may be). New, fresh content is king.

I think a little differently to that. Yes, you need fresh content, but that's more of the ongoing process; not the foundation.

When you have a solid foundation you can drop the content posting to once per fortnight. You could go away on holiday for a month and leave the site. You could slowly pay for training over the course of a few years in different areas.

It might take you 2, 5 or 10 years to make it. But you always know you have the solid foundation. So everything you do each day is building on what you already have.

It's a bit like saying you wouldn't build a house on the sand. Once you have the solid foundation you can build it up slowly, learning new things as you go along and taking your time.

Cool strategy Jamie. You just put the best way to get started one there. Like JD said, a solid foundation to start working on.

Lots of good advice there Jamie.

Just a point worth mentioning, I believe the free Wordpress platform is rather strict concerning monetisation. That's not to say you can't. Here is a page on their support regarding it. links..http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/

Here's a bit where they talk about Amazon

Amazon.com and other select affiliate links are permitted so long as they are not the primary content of the blog in question. Other exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis.
I'm just saying it would be worth it for those new to this to make sure they read the terms and conditions of Wordpress.com before they monetise anything.

Sorry, I meant free theme/premium theme rather than .com/.org.

    Thanks Fin,

Yea Im not a fan of the 'take action threads', especially when there are no specifics attributed to the 'action'
