What a find! I typed into it...

My teacher learned me how to talk good.

And, it came out as correct!

      Who needs English teachers now?

My father used to have a pet rat. Folks would come over and the first thing they said was...

Where is your pet rat at?

Of course, we should never end a sentence with a preposition. All attempts to correct this fell on deaf ears. The only solution was to change the rat's name to At. Thereupon, it was acceptable to come into the room and ask...

Where is your pet rat At?

By the way, your tool appears to think that all rats are named At, because when I typed the above question into the block, that too, was just fine.

      Thanks,
      Alton

Marhelper, I typed in a sentence with the word "at" on the end of it. The checker said it was fine, which is not correct.

I went one up on Alton's test - with this:

Where is your pet rat at? Are you sure he's gonna be at the party when he's should not? Or is you really not sure that this isn't good very?

Nothing's perfect. However, if you are looking for active voice versus passive voice, etc.. then it is a handy tool. If it doesn't help then that's fine too.

    Marhelper,

I checked out this tool; it looks like it could benefit those who like to write such as myself. I have Microsoft Word which is what I have been using for the last several years.

However, I will use the Grammar Checker on my next article tomorrow. Thanks for the info. You never know, I may run into someone, on the Super Highway, that doesn't have Microsoft Word.

As with all tools, never assume they find ALL mistakes. I do a lot of proofreading and even after running material through a spell checker and a grammar checker, there are still some errors, depending on whether it is my material or someone else's that I am checking.

YOU need to be the final checker, before AND after using your tools.

Yeah, it seems to work pretty well, but I find that Word works just as well, if not better, especially after you have spent some time training the grammar and spell checker. Although, on second thought, it wouldn't hurt to run it through both checkers when the writing is done. But of course, proofreading it yourself is always advisable...

I understand that there are flaws. It will allow silly non sensical statements but it has helped me. I'm working on a a rather large manuscript. There are over 30 chapters. This tool will trigger some grammatical devices that I might over look. I am trying to write in the active voice for example and it helps to show when I am in passive. There are other things that I like too but it is FAR from perfect as is Word, etc.. Its just one more tool in the belt.

It's a good share. We have this quality control process in place that requires all writers to check their grammar and spelling using MS Word's in-built feature for that purpose. Plus, we have other tools wherein grammarbase is one. All writers must manually proofread their work apart from using these tools. They help, indeed. But nothing is better than a manually proofed content.

      Marhelper,

Your intentions are good, and that's appreciated. However, this grammar checker clearly doesn't work very well. I typed in two sentences that would have given my high school English teacher a heart attack (and me, a failing grade!):

"I ain't never been to no fancy opra before. I thought them there singin plays was for rich peoples only."

And wouldn't you know? No grammar errors! It did, however, point out that I'd spelled opra, singin, and peoples incorrectly.

Heaven help any writer who checks their grammar with this...!

Yeah I totally agree and no issues there he is only trying to help.

But the thing doesn't do what its supposed to do. It has one function, to check grammar and it doesn't do that so... uhhh, yeah I dont know what to tell people.

I seen all these people saying how great it is. That surprised me, a lot!

Hey guys, my name is Anton and I represent GrammarBase. I found this topic via my Google Analytics Account and it was like "wow, we are getting popular". We are group of students from Ukraine (this is almost Soviet Russia FYI) and we just wanted to make simple and free grammar correction tool. It's not so easy cuz and we are trying to make our own engine. Now we are working on English grammar rules and cases like this
"I ain't never been to no fancy opra before. I thought them there singin plays was for rich peoples only."

[/quote]are our pain. I saw some mentions of Grammarly and Ginger, these are great services and we are trying to make alternative of these grammar checking monsters. Grammarbase is free and it will be free, so if you have any ideas how can we make it better - we are open to your feedback.
P.S. It is so cool that some of you guys are already found it useful)
