A Request For All Ebook Creators & Marketers

This may seem nit picky but many eBooks have blocks of solid color on the headers and/or footers. That is fine for the first page but really doesn't need to be repeated on each page. What's my complaint? Those solid blocks use a lot of ink which is costly, but all that ink tends to curl the pages. I'm sure many others have this irritation as well, so I thought I'd just throw it out there. At least it is off my chest!!!

Are you printing every ebook that you read? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the ebook in the first place?

Some don't buy because of the convinience of the format. They buy ebooks because the work isn't available in print and they have no other choice.

Ebooks are designed ideally to be read on screen. If you prefer to print, perhaps rather than print the whole thing you could try skim-reading on screen and printing only those pages you find of particular interest or might need to refer to again quickly.

If your printer allows printing in black only ands perhaps some sort of ink/toner "saver" function then use that to save a few pennies as well.

    Best,

    Andy.

Ebooks are not meant to be printed anyway.

      You have 2 options:

      1. Get a new printer with refillable ink cartridges and a recycle ink tank, and some possibly heavier paper.

      2. Don't print the ebook.

I am not sure if you troll us or really having a trouble.
Well, if you print an eBook, please tell me your reason.
        why?

I never really thought about not printing them. I guess the main reason is
to be able to retrieve pieces of information that I consider important. I could never find what I needed from all the ebooks and spent too much time trying to do so. Also I get too much eyestrain from reading online. I find it much more comfortable to sit in a recliner and read and take notes and still be SOME company to my spouse.

Ebook creators that use PDF should understand that PDF was created for the purpose of printing. It's main use is to format text, include fonts, attempt to adjust colors, etc, so that it will print out as good as it can across as many systems and printers as possible, which isn't an easy task.

Publishers of PDFs should take into account that many people will want to print out their PDFs so they can be read away from the computer. It only takes a little bit of planning and forethought by PDF publishers to take into account their readers' wants and needs to make their PDFs printer and customer friendly.

Kurt's exactly right. Prior to the advent of portable readers, I always printed out the more worthwhile ebooks - especially those with more than a dozen or so pages. It's much more comfortable to read a long document on the printed page and you can make notes or scribble in the margins as necessary.

The original benefit of eBooks to buyers wasn't that they could be read on screen - it was that they could be downloaded immediately. Too many publishers get overblown ideas about branding and feel it essential to cover all available white space with logos or large blocks of colour.

It's just an ego-stroking waste of ink.

Oh, come on guys, don't give the OP a hard time, LOL! ...

Obviously, people can do whatever they want with their ebook. Some people don't like reading books digitally, but the ONLY version of the book they want is the ebook version, so they are faced with the choice of either not reading the book -- OR buying the ebook and printing it which is certainly fine in my opinion.

However, I don't think you're gonna get product creators and ebook writers as a whole to agree to your request.

    Best,
    Shane

I print some of my ebooks. And I print all of my own several times before offering to the public just so I can edit them. I see different things on a printed version than the one on my screen. I can sit outside in the sun and read peacefully without squinting at a dark screen.

I print some of my ebooks so that I can take them with me where I won't have computer access. I print in black/white to save on ink, but I do know what you are talking about as far as the corners curling up.
