A friend of mine was using a Logitech webcam recently and thought his audio was out of sync. When I looked at it, it turned out that the problem was a very low frame rate. In other words, most screen recording is at least 15 frames per second. Regular video is usually 30 frames per second. But that webcam was set to record video at about 5 frames per second. Giving you video that's so jerky, it looks like the audio is out of sync.

import the video into camtasia studio 6, then unlock the audio from the visual video, and move the audio to match

This may not be the problem and I'm sure no video expert, but I some times find the audio seems out of sync when I am viewing in Camtasia, but when I publish it, it's fine.

Can your computer be too slow to handle those tasks together? Camtasia consumes HUGE hardware resources even without the audio. With a bit old computer it will be hard to get a nice performance.

everytime you output to mp4 or other format in camtasia, make sure you reboot your pc before you play the resulting video. camtasia consumes a lot of pc resources so refreshing everything before viewing the videos will do you good.

in camtasia, i also unlock the audio and video. i move the audio a bit to the right about 0.8 to 0.9 seconds. most of the time, the audio synchs with the video.

        A few additional points:

        1. When something is out of sync, it typically means: "Something can't keep up". Try a reboot as suggested, shut down all unnecessary apps (like IM, anything you don't need for your video, etc.)

        2. Disable hardware acceleration.

To disable hardware acceleration globally, right-click on the desktop and select Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshooting. Set the acceleration slider to None. This method will turn off acceleration for all applications until it is manually turned back on.

        3. Reducing the screen area you are recording along with reducing the capture frame rate can help free up more resources in order to capture the audio in sync.

This issue was most prevalent in Camtasia 5.1. If you are not running Camtasia 6, you might try downloading the free 30 day trial and seeing if it fixes your problem.

You can run the two versions independently of each other but BE AWARE that if you open a Cam5 project in Cam6 the file formats are different and it will write the new file in the new format (it automatically makes a Cam5 backup but I always backup everything to a separate directory also before opening in Cam6).

        Hope this helps!
