On "Taking Massive Action"
Newbies and struggling marketers: if you are really intent on following this advice and just doing whatever task comes to mind in the hopes of making money, then the least you can do is not run into the battle naked.
You need to track and test every single action that you take. If you're not recording an action, and observing it against a goal/prediction, then there is no way to know if what you are doing is actually helping your business. That's how you burn out, become a failure, and spend the rest of your life complaining about how IM doesn't work.
So how do you measure your actions and decide what gets thrown out and what gets optimized? You know the answer, and won't have to spend a penny to get the information right back in front of your eyes. Take a nostalgic trip back to the 4th grade and behold the scientific method:
Scientific method - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
That's right: it's not just for figuring out whether or not pee is safe to drink (I sh*t you not, this was one student's experiment in 8th grade). Everything that you do online is an experiment, whether you realize it or not. Will that new headline work? Is forum posting bringing you money? Does Article Syndication/YouTube/SEO/Magic Pixie Dust work? You don't have to guess, and you don't have to hope that someone else is giving you good information!
If this seems like too much work for you, then you shouldn't be in this business in the first place. Harsh, yes; but it's better than sending you off blind to fail and reach the same conclusion.
Well, what are you waiting for? Go "take massive action". At least you're a little bit better equipped for it now. And those of you giving advice? Either be a bit more complete with what you say (feel free to link them to the scientific method like I did), or shut up.
