Are they worth it?

I have found a great domain name through google keywords which has 240,000 searches a month. Its available and costs £5000...

I guess my question is. How important is the domain name considering the keywords i will be using on the pages and titles are more likely to get a targeted audience instead of a generic domain name which coul refer to many things.

Will i find traffic flooding in if I purchase it?

EDIT

I found a great keyword phrase with 22,000 searches a monthand is £8 to purchase. Are these the kinds of domains that we dream about or are they everywhere and im being stupid? lol

EDIT

Damit.. it's a song name, explains the high searches.. useless..

thanks

Domain name means nothing unless you develop it. Unless you have tons of money to invest, 5000UK is not a small amount. And NO, you won't get any traffic by just registering a domain.

Does sex.com rank 1st, let alone 1st page of Google if you type "sex" and hit search?
The choice of domain based entirely on someone who want to use it. If you have money and really like that domain then it's up to you to grab it. But SEO wise, there is a small relation...

Another example is "online shopping". shopping.com and all other extensions are not even on first page of google. A good position can be achieved by working the SEO and not by having an exact domain....

ok thanks i'm glad. I'm not sure why domains can cost so much in that case...

I understand if the website comes with the domain but just the domain for such a high amount.. oh well. And Yes I have the money but after purchasing it.. I would have none haha.

      thanks

You can get your positions with any other domain if you are doing great seo, 5K is high price, and if it is competitive kw phrase, you'll still must do a lot of work. Same as with new domain. Maybe it will bring you some benefits (exact mach, age, pr) if you buy premium domain, but you can invest that money much better.

22,000 for £8 is a good deal, if you think you are able to rank it.

If you are able to find a buyer for a few times the price, then it could be worth looking into

The best option to spend 5000 is to go with HIGH QUALITY PPC and letting someone here ( who has good references create a campaign for You niche )

In that case You domain can be 555 letters long and purchased Yesterday !!

Don't buy exact match domains in the hopes of good rankings. There's evidence to suggest that post Penguin, exact match domains hold much less weight.

    1. What We Know

First, let's review what we know. I'm going to break the rules of blogging and recommend that you stop and read this level-headed Penguin post by Danny Sullivan. It covers some of the basics and is the most speculation-free post I've read on the subject so far. Glenn Gabe also had a good post on potential Penguin factors. There's still a lot of speculation, but likely culprits include:

    Aggressive exact-match anchor text
    Overuse of exact-match domains
Low-quality article marketing & blog spam
    Keyword stuffing in internal/outbound links

If you have a lot of money and want to invest in this business and if the domain name has the exact keyword only then you can buy. But you have to develop it properly because domain names are not going to give you visitors and money dude
I think before taking any decision you should talk to your team (SEO, Programmer, forum marketers, and others).
