For someone who is starting out I don't really think it is a smart move to attack a competitive niche like weight loss or credit cards. Surely they have a nice payout, however, it is also very competitive and tough to break in with a beginners skill set. If you do this you are headed for failure. Most newbies make the mistake of going after a strong niche and when they can't break even they get discouraged and eventually conclude that internet marketing doesn't work.

It is profitable. Also you don't neccesarily have to even focus on a sub niche.

The Internet is a open playground. You will find it hard to rank for keywords in search engines, so try to use other techniques to build traffic, and create your own following/branding.

It's totally possible, and will make you money if you approach it the right way.

Think about it; in the offline business world, there are hundreds of thousands of businesses who compete int he same niche, some on international scale so geography makes no difference - if they can do it, so can you; and with much less of an overhead.

Of course it's profitable. Good luck with that though. You have a ton of the fiercest competitors ahead of you. Better to drill down into a sub-niche within weight loss.

You only need to glance at something such as CBEngine to get a good idea of how many successful weight loss niche programs there are around. I don't think that the saturation of the market is a problem, as long as you use an at least somewhat different approach. And, that's easy. There are a lot of really strange diets and exercise reigmes, to which extent they actually work I cannot say, that have become very popular.

I have EMD's for 4 different weight loss niches. They are all doing very well.

The weight loss niche is a huge niche with a lot of competition. But where it is competition, there is also a market. Try to focus on one of the weight loss niche's sub-niches (like "how to get thinner legs") and try to dominate that sub-niche and become the best in it!

It's very important that you focus on just one niche/sub-niche because an old pro verb says - "It's a lot easier to chase and catch one monkey than 10 monkeys".

It is still profitable but because of the HIGH competition you not going to make to much from your websites search traffic, however you can by Viral Marketing or word of mouth and grinding it out everyday.

I would suggest you start digging into smaller niches. Anyway, weight loss is not a niche. Losing weight by hypnosis is a niche. Competitive markets aren't really for newbies who have not yet mastered traffic generation. The usual newbie cycle is ... try weight loss market .. frustrated with no results, despite all the gurus out there recommending weight loss .. give up on internet marketing as it's not working.

Try finding a niche that you know by heart and where you could thrive without the fierce competition. You will then know how to create content that people love as they see the energy and joy you have put into writing, they will trust you and they will buy based on your recommendation.

I own WeightLossManna.com and it would make a great freebie site and/or content marketing to build a front end list of freebie seekers. You could upsell the list in the backend with ebooks from clickbank et al. Either way this would make a great list building funnel if done right. I could sell it to you for $50.

Its one of my favorite niche. But I don't promote products that are seen all over. Instead I go with low gravity products, yes they have to have a good sales page. I have my own unique way of promoting them. So won't be revealing much.

But yeah it works and works well.

I'm a newbie and targetted this market three months ago and am doing pretty well with my weight loss blog, but it was very hard work for the first month - 12 hr days! But I'm starting to get fairly large companies who like my blog coming directly to me now with sponsorship deals so that must be a good thing! To be honest this avenue has been far more lucrative than adsense.

Weight loss is still hot... just like "internet marketing" or "make money online". It's all about getting those money pages out there.

Weight loss is great but like others said drill into it and find a subniche to tackle. Don't be afraid of competition. Innovate.

Think about life stages and time-sensitive factors when you're thinking about a subniche. For example, lose x by Christmas, or losing weight after menopause etc. The more narrow the niche, the easier it will be for you to distinguish yourself.

Go to places where the target demographic hangs out - Facebook groups, forums / discussion boards, and get to know them. Might be another fantastic source of traffic.

I sell a hell of a lot of PLR ebooks in the dieting/weight loss niche. It's one of my biggest sellers on Fiverr. So I'd say you are good to go!

or the niche just evolves - my weight loss blog started up as a blog about how I lost weight last year and has now evolved into a blog about losing further weight as a result of training for a marathon and subsequently I have been approached by sponsors in the running niche - which is kind of cool as I'm getting a lot of my running kit paid for! Believe me, if you know what new trainers cost these days, this is worth it!

Just look into that niche and then get really specific by looking into micro niches. I.e weight loss can apply overall so break it down, how to lose belly fat, or how to lose fat on your thighs etc. Created surveys and do keyword research, look at what the competition is doing. Try and find a specific solution to a specific problem.

Just remember to choose the niche or goal and focus on that... You can be successful, just have to want it that bad.
