Posting my identical blog posts to article sites

I have heard many times that google 'doesn't like' seeing the same thing posted in multiple sites ... I have no idea if this is true ... which is why I am here.

But for example, if I have a blog post in wordpress, and I use the plugin to send directly to ezineartcles, and then maybe I copy and paste that same blog post to squidoo, ehow, etc

Does that hurt me at all for google rank?

Yes, even though it's posted on your own blog, EzineArticles will say it is duplicate content! So don't put it on your blog until after it's posted on that article site

EzineArticles isn't concerned about whether the article was posted on your site first - but you should be. Always post it on your own site and get it indexed before submitting the article to directories.

@The OP. The rank you should be concentrating on is that of your own site. That's why you'd be best advised to post on your site first.

Sorry, but this is completely wrong, Rick.

On the contrary, that's the way to damage your business, and build up EZA's traffic at the expense of your own. If you read this thread, you'll find a whole succession of successful, professional, experienced article marketers explaining all their shared reasons for doing exactly the opposite of what you're advising above: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...eza-first.html

What you're advising above is what so many of the people who start off all those thread here with titles like "Article Marketing Is Dead" have been doing. And they don't realize that they did it to themselves by getting everything the wrong way round.

This little thread explains it pretty clearly, too: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...marketing.html

      Exactly so.

If they didn't want to re-publish content already published elsewhere, they'd hardly be giving their authors a plug-in enabling them to publish on their own blogs first and then submit the identical text to EZA for approval and subsequent publication there.

Nor would they be sending out an email series to their new authors specifically inviting them to submit as articles any of their former blog posts which comply with the editorial guidelines.

Nor would they be teaching people to do that in their article marketing course.

Nor would they be explaining so openly on their blog the difference between duplicate content and syndicated content and making it so clear that they don't care whether articles submitted to them have previously been published elsewhere ("syndicated content"), as long as they haven't previously been published at EZA ("duplicate content").

Nor would I, and hundreds of other article marketers, have so many of my/our articles published daily/weekly at EZA having been published in many other places first.

But however many times all these matters are aired and clarified in such conversations, there will always be people who imagine that "EZA accepts only unique content", because there are always people who don't understand what an article directory is, what purpose it serves, and how it works: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5068872

Well, unfortunately I arrived late on this one, but that's time zones for you..

It really astounds me that this amount of misinformation is still circulating, despite the dozens, possibly even hundreds of previous threads containing contributions from knowledgeable people such as Alexa Smith, Richard Van, Joe Robinson – and many more.

This short statement is utterly and completely wrong. Ezine Articles actually provides writers who have Wordpress blogs, a plugin enabling them to first post their content to their own blog, then submit it to EZA. If you don't believe me, read their own words: Submit Your Articles Directly from WordPress

Joe R Piercey - thank you for referencing the article I published on this very issue. I appreciate your kind words..

You should always post to your wn site first.

Duplicate content has always been a huge issue but there are now opinions that google doesn't really pay that much attention to it in regards to ranking criteria however IMO its always best to avoid it if you can and if you can't do as mentioned above, get your site indexed before sharing.

  • Here are a few extracts from Google WMT Help

'Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar.'

'However, in some cases, content is deliberately duplicated across domains in an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings or win more traffic. Deceptive practices like this can result in a poor user experience, when a visitor sees substantially the same content repeated within a set of search results.'

    Interpret that as you will.
