First: Don't let fear cause you to be so indecisive that you don't take action... almost any market will do for your first e-book. Don't plan on making a million bucks in your first month, just get into the rhythm of creating. It's almost better that your first product isn't your best idea... just use it as "practice", or a trial run so that you can work out all of the other things you need to do to build a successful online business.

Here are some sites to help you get started with market research.

google dot com/insights/search Google Insights for Search

    google dot com/trends Google Trends

Ebay in general can give you ideas, but check out pulse dot ebay dot com for trends, hot picks, cool stuff and popular searches on eBay

You can also find ideas on Oprah's website, she's always talking about the latest trends.

Speaking of trends you can also check out 50 dot lycos dot com or buzz dot yahoo dot com

I could rattle off a dozen more, but I think this is enough to get you started.

Best of luck in your new venture. And if you want help with how to drive traffic once you decide on your product just (get your posts up) and PM me ... always glad to help.

    Best of Luck!

I agree with Clintonio. Just get busy and do it. The longer you wait, the longer you aren't working on your business, and nothing is changing. Just get busy. Also try google adwords keyword analysis to check the demand of certain keywords.

    Good luck!

Yahoo Buzz, Google Trends, Alexa, Quantcast, and all the other methods Richard mentioned above are good ways to find niche markets.

Remember, using the internet you can become an expert on almost any topic in 2 hours or less. (I think it was John Carlton that taught me that)

Go find your market, create your product, and move on to the next subject...

If you want to test out different niches to see which ones are profitable, check out any of the links in my sig.

Before I dive into any niche I take a serious, hard look at the competition and I follow where all the advertising dollars are going. If there are more than a handful of competitor's among a few dozen keywords over the course of a week or two I do a more thorough analysis.

I prefer niches that have repeat buyers, people that purchase out of "perceived need / want/ desperation", and niches that tend to be recession proof. In other words, these people are going to purchase pretty much under any conditions.

Lastly, I found my top 3 most profitable niches by simply doing one thing: asking friends, family, and people that meet in everyday life what interests and hobbies they have. It's actually blown away any other method that I've used. To me the keyword research and competitive analysis is done simply to validate whether or not it's going to be a profitable niche to dive into.

    Good luck,
