4 Things That Guarantee You Make Money Online?

I've been on this forum since 2007 with 1000s of posts and I've been doing pretty well for myself since I started on this forum... (mostly thanks to the things I've learned and people I've met here... I would never have started making money online if it weren't for this site).

So I want to "give back" a little bit here... even though I know there will be people who don't give a rat's about it or think it's all too elementary for them.

I guess you could call it "rehashed crap." (In this case, THIS rehashed crap will help you have your internet marketing breakthrough and it'll work for you for years... While the non-rehashed crap will work for a few months or less then stop working on a dime.)

I can't guarantee you'll suddenly start making 6 figures with this info... But I believe that it's impossible to fail if you remain persistent with it over time.

You'll survive all the changes in the internet marketing world that send most businesses to their graves.

If you're serious about making money online, you'll burn these 4 things I'm about to tell you into your brain...

You should write them on a piece of paper and hang it on your wall right above your computer screen...

Or you should make an image file of these 4 things and make it your computer's desktop background.

Why? While everyone else is chasing shiny objects, you can be steadily building a longterm business.

You'll shrug your shoulders at 99% of new things that come along (because you'll know what REALLY makes money).

Everyone knows there are 1000s of different ways to make money online.

I'm not saying mine are the best ways... but they work for me and they work for other successful internet marketers I know.

Before I reveal these 4 pillars of success, I want to tell you how I think about the term "make money online."

I hate it.

I only used it to get your attention.

Instead of "make money online," you should look at this as BUILDING A REAL BUSINESS.

Go fill out some surveys and join a pay to click site if you want to "make money online."

But if you want to build something that lasts... and brings home more than a nickel here and nickel there... then focus on BUILDING A REAL BUSINESS.

Here are the only 4 things you need to focus on to "make it" online...

And focus on them relentlessly starting right now...

#1: Listbuilding
#2: Copywriting
#3: Networking
#4: Market Research

Let's take Listbuilding...

Your Google traffic can dry up tomorrow... your Facebook account could get deleted... but with a subscriber list, your traffic is fully in your control.

I grew my first list of 1000 subscribers for free by slapping an opt-in form top and center and offering a free guitar speed report on my guitar blog (it was easy).

Then I started making my commissions every week as I mailed that list.

I was a house painter for $9 an hour in rural South Carolina and believe me, it stung to pay that $20 per month AWeber bill at first, but it's worth it then some.

You can't go cheap on your autoresponder. A free autoresponder will NOT do.

Let's take Copywriting...

This is one of those things NO ONE cares about... Yet it's something you use every day to make money (if you're making money).

So it only makes sense to get the best copywriting training you can.

You'll use your copywriting chops for your e-mails, sales pages, and ads.

The best copywriting teacher to learn from in my opinion is David Garfinkel (known as the World's Greatest Copywriting Coach).

Last thing about copywriting is... you might think your problems have mainly to do with lack of traffic when in reality it's lack of copywriting skills... because good copywriting = traffic... by that I mean you can afford traffic and afford to take the time to generate free traffic if you can convert that traffic into sales and commissions.

Let's take Networking...

The reason why networking is so important is because you mastermind with other internet marketers and learn a lot from them about what's working right NOW.

The second part is joint venture deals and affiliate promotions.

The fastest way to grow a business is by joint venture deals and having affiliates.

Your JV deals can include collaborations on projects with other internet marketers or it can mean sending traffic to eachother's sites...

Or with your relationship with your affiliates you can crush your webpage with traffic without risking a penny buying traffic.

Let's take Market Research...

What I mean by "Market Research" is mainly... Finding out what your customers want so you can keep making them happy.

When you make your customers happy, they make you happy by spending money with you.

You have to have customers in order to find out what people who spend money in your niche want.

There are 2 ways to find out what your customers want that work really well.

1. Do ask campaigns to your subscriber list. This means sending out "I Need Your Help" e-mails and asking them what they want, the biggest reason why they ordered the last product they ordered, or asking them about their biggest problems and frustrations.

2. Do customer Q and A webinars. You'll uncover recurring questions from customers in your Q and A webinars (questions that can turn into products and sales copy). You've got to connect with your customers and find out how you can better serve them. Don't be lazy on this... get down and dirty and take the time to get to know what makes your customers tick.

If you're NOT focusing on giving your customers what they want, then you're fighting an uphill battle... you're marketing "against the current"... You have to give your customers what they want, not what you think they want or what you want.

Note: This is about building a real business so there are no real guarantees. I've only shared the bulletproof methods that work in my business and other successful internet marketers I know. I think it's virtually impossible to fail by using these 4 things correctly, but you never know...

Jason, when I read your headline, my first reaction was:

"Wait a minute, the only absolutely guaranteed way I know to make money online is a deal with the devil..."

But your way will work, too...

This is a really good post, thanks for taking time to write it Jason.

      I especially like this part:

We all need traffic. However, if you focus on continually improving conversions, (by using great copywriting and a having a kick-ass website), you will eventually come to a point where you can afford to drive as much paid traffic to the site as you want.

Then your upper income limit is the sky...

I should add that what I wrote above only holds true assuming that you are promoting great products that make you a good amount of money per sale, whether they are your own or an affiliate product.

I'm glad you pointed out that nobody cares about copywriting.

I know that I personally neglected it for way too long. And even though I never intend on being an expert copywriter- I at least want to reach the point that I can recognize strong copy when I see it.

And as far as networking... look through half of the WSOs that got WSOOTD, and you see a lot of big marketers commenting early on because they were JV partners...

I'm part of his $497 Fast Effective Copy program, which is one of the best investments I've ever made in my business... but I think he has something on audible.

Back when I was making $9 an hour as a house painter, I couldn't afford something like Fast Effective Copy, so I used to listen to every copywriting MP3 I could find at hardtofindseminars.com. Although I don't know if that's a free site anymore.

Although I think Garfinkel is the guy to learn from if you can afford it, there's also a complete copywriting course from the 90s called Advertising Magic by Brian Keith Voiles that's going on eBay these days dirt cheap. It's OLD... but it's a complete course and the principles of selling in print never change... even though there are always trends that come and go.

    THANK YOU JASON!!!

This is what it is all about...

Take action until successful, then give back.

You have certainly done that here Jason and this will be going somewhere I can see it everyday.

Even though I am already super focused it still acts as a fantastic reminder!

This post right here is worth $1000's of dollars alone in my eyes.

This guy has been on this forum for years so I hope many people get to see it and take action upon it right away.

It is advice like this you don't see often enough and it isn't just about the strategies, it is the mind set that gets you there.

You deserve all the success and more for sharing this post and I wish you all the best with your future efforts!!!

You're not going to find better advice then this. I've done just about everything online possible. I started out working a full time job like Jason and quit my job 6 months ago to move overseas. If I could start all over again and focus on one thing it would be exactly what he said.

    Setup a squeeze page
    Drive all traffic to it
Build a relationship with my list
    Promote my products and affiliates.
Spend all my spare time learning copy.

If any of you're new and serious about building a business and not just short term cash follow Jason's exact plan and you can't fail. I've been Google slapped and it hurts.

When you have an email list you don't have to worry about the penguin, panda and whatever other animals Google comes up with.

Loved this post Jason - and that's not something I often say on the main forum! :p

Glad some people truly understand the importance of copywriting. Sure, it's often expensive, and ridiculously time-consuming (unless you out-source) but it means the difference between a smash-hit and failure.

Again, great post - thanks for the share!

    Jason,

Sweet post. You're right, most people don't give a two figs about sales copy, yet sometimes, it can spell the difference between profit and loss and sometimes, between marginal profits and massive profits.

One of the best resources out there, especially for a beginner, is an ebook by the late Joe Robson, it literally forces you to write better copy. It used to cost around $30 bucks, but now it's totally free. You can grab it here:

Make Your Words Sell! (not an affiliate link, that's just how Dr. Evoy has it set up).

I'll second that recommendation. I did buy it when it was $29, and it turned out to be one of the best purchases I made.

I don't have current copy, but if it's like the others in the series, you have to wade through some of the SiteSell/SBI propaganda. But even that is worth studying for how it's integrated into the product.

Market research - absolutely, so many people miss the mark on both properly defining their market and the desire they are targeting with their business

Copywriting - way underestimated in my opinion by those who are struggling...I had the benefit of having a top notch copywriter help me with my first ever site online...at the time I didn't realize what a big deal that was, but soon after I went live with that site the orders started coming and it became crystal clear how valuable copywriting really is.

List Building - Yes, but I would change this to overall "Engagement" in today's world of relationships, conversations and social...the challenge now (just as it was with list building) is how to engage, interest and get your social circles to trust and buy from you...become a rabid fan and spread the word further.

Networking yes, I like to also raise another success factor and that is leverage. To really scale in business understanding how to leverage your effort and community is critical.

    For example...

    a) Leverage effort creating a product to get long-term benefits of ongoing product sales, licensing fees, market credibility, publicity and earning potential. Putting a month's work into product creation can be leveraged to achieve 100X the benefit

    b) Affiliates and JV's - leverage marketing effort - spend your time recruiting affiliates and supporting them can take your effort and duplicate it by 100X across your affiliate base who will collectively reach your market in mass.

    c) Viral Marketing - create great content and make it easy for others to distribute it - reports, videos, social networking posts, pictures (think Pintrest and Instagram), etc...lots of opportunity to create once and obtain benefit in the multiples

    d) Outsource - leverage the time and expertise of others, you can often pay someone a small fraction of the cost of time it would take you to do a less professional job - learning to leverage experts is a key part of scaling your business

    Excellent post Jason.

I've gone through a lot of copywriting courses too.

My favorite is probably a monster course that I got

At the same time, I have a LOT of stuff by Dan Kennedy

I find that as you just study great copy over time, that
you start modeling a lot of things that you see the
    great copywriters doing.

For the record, I watch how Jason sets up a lot of
his systems, and models him from time to time.

Great post Jason. You referenced Marketing Seminars | Free Interviews | Consulting and Training which, in my opinion is one of the best, if not the best source of free marketing and copywriting information online.
Before looking for or buying a copywriting WSO, check out the site and listen to dozens of hours of interviews with the most successful copywriters around - for free.
        Save some bucks and buy
        1. Dan Kennedy's "Ultimate Sales Letter"
        2. Robert Cialdini - "Influence, the Psychology of Persuasion"
        3. David Oglivy - "Oglivy on Advertising"
        4. Joe Vitale - "Buying Trances"
        5. Richard Bayan - "Words that Sell" - this is my newest purchase and a real gem!
        6. Clyde Bedell - "How to Write Advertising That Sells" (if you can find it. It's also expensive)

If someone came and said, "I'm taking your entire business library." I would beg, plead cajole and pull out all stops to keep these 6 treasure chests.

There are numerous outstanding (and expensive) copywriting courses out there but I always recommend building a solid foundation with classic books. Afterwards, invest in a course or a coach to refine your craft. Sorta like gettin' your bachelor's before jumping into a master's degree!

Solid info, I like how you made it sound so simple. It really is....but sadly we are in a "I want it now" society.

Many people go to 6 or 8 year college and become a doctor or lawyer to earn $100K+ per year. Do you know how hard those people have to study and learn to make that type of income? Then its not even a guaranteed job...some of them have to hire a guy like me to get them clients..hahaha

If you want to be full time career with IM...take this VERY serious, here is the GOOD News. You don't have to wait 6 or 8 years to make $100K+ a year. It can be done much faster but its not a get rich quick scheme, treat it like a business and follow what Jason is talking about. Cheers !!

Yes, this is it! Inspiring post, especially I liked "Copywriting" part, because really, nobody pays real attention to copywriting, actually... Thank you.

    Great Post Jason.

Now - although I promote list building products as my primary niche, and get my income from my list - I still think that copywriting needs to be number one on the list to learn. You can't build a list without good copy! Just being pedantic about the order, I know, but you can certainly waste a lot of time trying to build a list sending traffic to bad copy!

Thanks for the post - quality as always!

Thanks for the GREAT post Jason!

One of the first people I ever ran into when I first started exploring the notion of making money online was Mike Dillard, if anyone knows who he is. One of the first lessons I learned from him was when he said that without ANY doubt if there was just one skill he was allowed to truly master, it would certainly be copy writing.

A while later he offered a private 8 week course in copy writing and his "special guest instructor" was none other than David Garfinkel. I consider myself fortunate to have that entire course in MP3 and it's backed up on CD.

One of the other people I first stumbled into was some cocky funny dude named David De Angelo who liked to tell guys what wussies they are. It actually took a couple more years for me to figure out this dude was really a guy named Eben Pagan who was more than a little successful online. As I began to listen to him more, I heard almost the same exact thing from him...
GREAT COPY WRITING IS CRITICAL!! Imagine that?

Boy was I suddenly glad I had been saving all the emails I got from many of the truly successful marketers online.

If you want some great copy writing AND List Building lessons absolutely free, just set up a gmail acct. and use that address to subscribe to the lists of people like Dillard, Pagan, Kern, and others who have obviously developed and deployed great copy writing skills. Use the filter and label system in gmail to create separate folders for each marketer.

Not only will you begin to accumulate a HUGE "swipe file" database, but over time you'll be able to note things like frequency of mail, time of day, day(s) of week, ratio of emails with offers vs. no offer / relationship building, most used type / style of subject lines, etc. etc.
