Question on more "Opinionated" topics

Hi , I was considering posting something more on the lines of articles and blog topics to drive traffic to my site....however, I was wondering if I should do so under an ALIAS considering I'm applying for jobs as well, and well, don't want anyone GOOGLING my REAL name.

Hot button topics such as politics and so on. Has this ever been a concern to someone wanting to make money on monetize blogs, submitting to article sites like E-zine Articles, etc, but only to have it bite them in the rear?

Thus, creating an ALIAS for certain niche topics that people could find offensive? (As we know, we have highly offended people these days).

Suggestions, comments?

Thankyou

I'm guessing you have an uncommon name, or it wouldn't be an issue. Nothing wrong with going with a pen name, lots of writers do. If your main concern is driving traffic (and not with building a writing career, for example) then I don't see too many downsides.

My wife has been watching the reality show about how the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader squad is selected each season. It seems like every year there is at least one talented girl given the boot for the content of her (or an ex-boyfriend's) Facebook page, YouTube channel, etc.

If you're worried that what you write could be used against you in a career setting, use a pen name. Period.

Because employers for just about any job you'd really want are going online to see what you're "really" like outside a job interview setting.

And it's not only Employers who are going online.

I was talking to my Apartment Manager about a month ago and she told me that when someone applies for a place to rent, she runs them through Google, Facebook, and Twitter, to see what they are like, if they have kids but told her they don't, if they party and drink all the time, but told her they don't, etc.

So if my Apartment Manager is checking up on people, and Employers are checking up on people, then I bet there are a ton of others who are also using Google to get information on you.

@ OP, So yea, if you are concerned that people are going to make judgements about you based upon what you promote online, then use a Pen name.

My girlfriend runs a political blog and she totally uses a pen name. I only use my real name in one market (where I'm literally marketing myself), in all my other niches where I'm marketing a product that has nothing to do with me, I use a pen name.

So yeah, use a pen name.

Definitely use a pen name in the context of your situation. And the more controversial your articles and blogs, the better the reason to use a pen name, because there are a lot of crazy people out there.

Yes. People tag pictures all the time. Look what happened to that Olympic swimmer (Michael Phelps) when someone tagged him hitting a bong at a party. He didn't even post the picture...

Meh, E Zine won't let me post something that's made up, but something more believable. Like it has to be the first initial full last name, either or.

I'll just use same first name, but completely diff last name since my last name is somewhat rare.

            Evil Tony Somewhat Rare.

Hmmm, strange name that. And rather uncommon.
