newbie needs advice on niche research

I feel like I've got a bit of information overload.....

I have been trying to do some market research on the business to customer relationship niche. I know it sounds unfamiliar but seeing as I can't really find anyone else doing it what would you seasoned warriors recommend? If you were to try out a new product idea how would you go about doing market research? Would you post a youtube video and see if people bite, write a blog about your passion and try to drive traffic to it? what do you think would be the fastest way for me to find out if I've got a possible income generating passion or if its just a pipe dream. I have been on a coaching program and the first step they recommended was to do market research. So here I am consulting the Warriors!

Frankly, the best way to do market research is a 1 on 1 with
an ideal prospect. The traditional market research methods.

But you can do it on the net... Drive PPC to a survey, or look
at high-traffic sites about the market. Forums, social media,
aggregators, or just places where your target market will hang
out. Youtube could be a good place, but the best place to get
    good information are marketplaces.

No, actually... I'd say the old method still works best. Set a
prospect up with an interview, and talk to him. You'll learn
tons of things, and you'll be able to dig in deep.

It's easy to set up a call with Skype too. You could record it
and replay it for market research nuggets...

If you want rough estimates or quantitative data, you could
look at magazine circulations, e-digests/ebooks, newsletters,
or even search engines by using their keyword tools.
